Ima Robot comprises of a group of charming young Los Angeles musicians, each with his own personality and and style. Collect all five!
Alex Ebert - vocals
Justin Meldal-Johnsen - bass
Timmy "The Terror" Anderson - guitar, programming
Oligee - synths, backing guitar, decks
Joey Waronker - drums
Scott Devours - drums
*Note - On October 29, 2003, Joey handed the sticks over to Scott Devours, formerly of the band Oleander. Though Joey was the drummer credited on
Public Access as well as the self-titled album (both released in 2003), Scott took over at the start of the Junior/Senior tour.
The transition took place at the Roxy show in a Keith Moon-style pantomime whereby Joey appeared to fall ill upon his drum kit, and a call into the
audience was made for a drummer to replace him. Scott was up to the challenge.
The following short bios are from the band fact sheet provided by the label:
ALEX EBERT: lead singer
I was born in Los Angeles in 1978 – the great year Richard Hell put out Blank Generation. My first concert was Young MC and Milli Vanilli at the
Universal Amphitheatre. I am inspired and haunted by ceilings. I find myself more and more attracted to toilets that flush with only one light push.
My mother is an actress and my father is a psychotherapist – I'm fucked.
JUSTIN MELDAL-JOHNSON: bass
I live in Los Feliz, California with my funny wife. I grew up in Los Angeles and have been enjoying being a part of the left-of-center music scene
here since the late 80's. Before ima robot, I was the bassist for Beck for eight years. During that time, I toured and recorded with Air as well.
I've also worked with Tori Amos, Frank Black, Ladytron, Mars Volta, Marianne Faithful, Mark Eitzel and Blinker the Star, among others. Prior to
1996, I was a member of LA "noise-pop" vanguards Medicine on Rick Rubin's American Recordings as well as Medicine's experimental
offshoot, Electric Company. My hobbies are candy, movies, gadgets, baseball, alternative health, biking, Indian food, acting the fool, eating ice
cream in a nice bubble bath and ima robot.
JOEY WARONKER: drums
I got my first record deal at twenty-one with my college band, Walt Mink. After a few years on the road, I moved to my hometown of Los Angeles and
began working with then unknown songwriter Beck. A few months later 'Loser' was released and Beck became a household name. I went on to
record five records with Beck and toured and recorded two records with REM. After that I started working consistently in the studio for other artists
like The Smashing Pumpkins and Richard Thompson. During my downtime, I scored two films for indie director, Miguel Arteta ( 'Chuck and Buck'
and 'The Good Girl'

. I produced records for Lisa Germano and the
Incredible Moses Leroy among others. My drumming can currently be heard on the Vines hit 'Get Free', Johnny Cash's 'American
IV' and Beck's 'Sea Change'.
OLIGEE: keyboards/programming
I was born in Los Angeles in 1979. My current residence is the chimney sweeps in Sherman Oaks, Ca. Education? The MPC60. My inspiration is Ray Liotta.
I've been surrounded by music since I was an embryo. I have an inherent desire to breach musical boundaries and push the limits of just about any
instrument.
TIMMY THE TERROR: guitar
I'm a founding member of the band. I am a tall brown-eyed nit-witted, jovial, indignant, tattooed, strip club-cliché, or the evangelistic
hardliner – street – preaching, axe (of doom) wielding cohort (to space port) scum the likes of Ebert, Oligee, JMJ and Joey – motherfuckin
waronker?!!! This remains to be seen. He waits now... waiting, waiting AND POUNCE!!! Millionth hour of mental packing - finally liquidated and cashed
in on.
