Grammy Noms

draconian - 12-4-2003 at 02:42 PM

So what do you guys think? Wayyyy to much Evanescence on there for my tastes, but it is pretty cool that The White Stripes are up for album of the year. They have a decent shot at it, too.

Sigur Ros and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are up for best alternative, but where the hell are the Queens of the Stone Age nominations in rock and other categories? Someone dropped the ball there.

yeah, i heard this morning that coldplay are up for an award. not such a big thing over here but i would like yeah yeah yeahs to take an award. that would be cool

I was bummed Beck wasn't nominated! Wait..Did he qualify? When did his album come out? Shit..Maybe he was nominated last year..Just forget it..:D

2 words....

Johnny Cash

Yeah, Beck was nominated in Best Alternative but lost out to Coldplay. I remember slamming them a bit on the Beck bbs and you came to their defense, Poobs!

Yeah, I thought the Queens of the Stoneage would have been nominated too. Coldplay isn't one of my favorites either. They are a little too bland and depressing for me. I think Amy Lee's (Evanescence) voice is amazing, but I don't like their music as a whole. She would be great on an Enigma album. She has an angelic, sexy, mystical style.
Gee, what about the wonderfully talented Missy Elliott? I can't wait until that whole dreadful scene vanishes!
I'm not sure who all was nominated, so I guess I'll have to watch to find out.

Ah crap..Well, screw them..I hope they lose big time this year just as payback for getting lame ass Gwenyth pregnant!! ;) (I realize it wasn't the whole band, but I guess you never know, eh?) But I did like them a lot at the time..I agree with Michelle though..A bit too depressing, but when I'm in the mood to kill myself, I know exactly which cd to listen to!! ;):D

oh man

dynomite - 12-8-2003 at 02:13 PM

i really think IMA RObot should have been nominated for at LEAST one grammy.:duh:

poobs - 12-8-2003 at 06:12 PM

I think that goes without saying..;):D

Go Pharrell!!

draconian - 12-9-2003 at 02:56 PM

Go Chad! I feel kinda bad for him, he never gets his own mention.

Aside: Rollling Stone's top 50 of 2003 just came out. One highlight was that they threw The Bad Plus album in the mix. They're a jazz/rock trio out of Minneapolis (and NYC) that covers a lot of popular songs in their own be-bop style. Really original sound.

Others on the list include Basement Jaxx, The Darkness, Fannypack, Dirty Ho, but no Ima Robot, wah.

Dang! Funny you should mention that. I just saw the N.E.R.D. CD @ my friends house over the weekend, and he told me about Chad(who's on the front cover). From what I hear he's got mad skillz. As a musician I'm always down for giving everyone their props. I'm gonna have to borrow that CD this weekend to hear it(never have). Thanks for the tip Drac.

Myy favorite tidbit about the 'Tunes is that Pharrell was bigtime into drumline in high school--snare captain is the new starting quarterback of teenhood!

Neuwave - 12-12-2003 at 04:28 PM

That is soo funny Drac. I saw that movie, and went through all kinds of flashbacks of my school band days, but it was nothing like that. Man, I could've been all-state snare captain w/letterman jacket n all.
