Everything 80's!

MichelleRene - 1-8-2004 at 12:44 PM

Just wanted to start a special place where all of us could share our favorite 80's things such as: music, favourite bands, movies and experiences. It will probably only be threaded by Neuwave and myself (we're freaks), but feel free to join in.

;)

so am I yet I feel like the youngest of the bunch. Check out AnythingBox.com. IF you like them cool. If you like 80's then you would love their older stuff.

envelope - 1-8-2004 at 06:01 PM

Oh just don't tell them you like their 80's stuff more or they'll scream. . .

I was buying roller skates in a Tempo discount store when Mtv first came on. Very weird. I remember seeing the Buggles video, going home to skate, and a year later I spent the entire summer inside the house watching Mtv.

TurtleEnterprises - 1-8-2004 at 10:16 PM

Speaking of roller skates. I just found out that the closest skating rink to my house has a friday 21 and over nite. Sounds like fun ;)

Of course. It's just to look fondly back at the 80's. I remember the Buggles song. I too drac, was an MTV junkie. I wouldn't leave the house until they played my favourite videos. Then we got a VCR and I started recording some of them. I have some on VHS from the early days but the quality is crappy.

Hey, I was just in Hot Topic today because I had a gift certificate from X-Mas and they have a girly T-shirt with the Duran Duran "Rio" girl on it. How funny. I almost got it but then I saw this really cute black Lip Service dress....and well that won. :saint:

Neuwave - 1-14-2004 at 04:37 PM

Nice going Michi! This thread should be eternal. Remember that song "Working Girl" by The Members? It is my favorite.

DylerPlummer - 1-14-2004 at 05:29 PM

Now there was a band... the Members..
"She could go off to work bring her money home to me"..

Heehee....."I'm in love with a working girl". (Great song!) I like when he sings about introducing his mother to her and she looks like something out of a John Waters movie! I actually taped that off of VH1 Classics. The singers 80's mullet looks like the AFI guitarists' mullet (Jade?).

Hey Neuwave..aren't the old British videos hilarious. Like The Specials- "Ghost Town". I love the "Love my Way" video by the Furs! And I had to buy the Adam and the Ants "Antics" VHS. I had the biggest crush on them! Yes, all of them. Something about the clothes...the makeup...the accents....."Stand and Deliver" and "Prince Charming". I was so into it I use to watch Benny Hill all the time too! We're two sad puppies trying to relive our childhood....

Tomorrow I'm going to a hardcore punk show at the Sidebar-should be fun! I'd rather go to the 80's night at the Depot, but friends of ours are playing there so I'm obligated to go. Should be fun!

MichelleRene - 1-15-2004 at 08:11 AM

Oh, wait a minute. I went back on the site and it said the scenes where Randy and his ex were having sex was filmed in a bar called The Crush Bar located at 1743 Cahuenga Blvd., north of Hollywood. So, I'm not sure if the Plimsouls were recorded there or the Viper Room-can you figure it out? They said the club scenes were there?????????

poobs - 1-15-2004 at 11:06 PM

Was the insanely talented Julie Brown in the 80's? Or was it early 90's? It's all about "The Homecoming Queen's Got A Gun"..

MichelleRene - 1-16-2004 at 08:46 AM

I'm not sure. I think she was the 80's. She was a crazy woman!
Hey, what's up with that privacy alert under the "Rio" girl pics? Oh no, I hope we don't get into trouble. Neuwave, you pirate you.....

sevenblur - 1-26-2004 at 10:07 PM

Yo...count me into the 80s thing. Like most girls, I loved Sixteen Candles and the Breakfast clubs, I also loved Joy Division and Krafwerk. Besides that, i loved the make up and some of the fashions. Postal Serivice's video for The District Sleeps Alone Tonight, they have an 80's theme along with make up style and the interior design of the apartment the chick was in. Anyhow...enought blabbing.
Peace

MichelleRene - 1-29-2004 at 06:42 AM

Can't get much more 80's than HANOI ROCKS!!!! Oh, how I loved them!!

Michael Monroe

DylerPlummer - 1-29-2004 at 10:14 AM

I loved 'em too Michelle but ouch.. the years haven't been too kind (mind you it probably wasn't the years that did this but something else)..

Running Screaming!!!!

MichelleRene - 1-29-2004 at 03:39 PM

Aaahhhhhh! I guess the years haven't been too kind to Mike. I did here that his wife died not that long ago-maybe it has something to do with that.

Man, I really, really loved them! Such a fun party band! Damn......

They were a great band.. Saw them many a time back in the day.. I took a load photos last year when they played and i was wondering what happened to Mike and why they got Shirley Bassey in on vocals as it seemed a strange choice...

poobs - 1-29-2004 at 10:22 PM

I think the earliest video I can remember was the big debut of Thriller..My older sister made me watch it in the sun room which was all windows and it scared the poo poo out of me..She made fun of me..:(;)

MichelleRene - 1-31-2004 at 06:49 AM

I remember that movie "Goulies" where the monster pops out of the toilet, and my nephew at that time was like 6 or something, and I use to scare him all the time saying it was gonna pop out of the toilet when he tried to lift the seat and go to the bathroom. Now he's 21, and probably wouldn't admit to it. he's into old school punk and stuff now...how cute!

The first video I saw when our cable first kicked in was by April Wine. Then I remember seeing lots of Buggles, Missing Persons, Madness and British pop stuff. Those were fun days...The videos were so cheesey but alot of fun!:D

Neuwave - 2-1-2004 at 12:07 PM

The first one I remember was "I Love Rock-N-Roll" by Joan Jett @ a friends house before we got cable(1981-82), and I remember there was a dirt canal dug up on our whole block for a few weeks when they were installing cable in our neighborhood. It was one of those cookie cutter suburban tracks like on Poltergeist, and all us kids would ride our dirt bikes over the turned up dirt, then when they were finished, "VOILA" we had cable. :)

Noisemonster - 2-1-2004 at 04:41 PM

hmmm, we could not receive (european) mtv until 1990 or so, my first video that i've been able to watch musta been some early 90's trash. i cannot remember exactly.
but i remember that we got cable tv in 1984, and the first i watched was knight rider, what a great program for an 8-year old boy!

TurtleEnterprises - 2-2-2004 at 11:52 AM

I was to young to really remember the 80's but I do remember early 90's comming home after school and watching the best cartoons. Cartoons nowadays don't even compare. Muppet babies..... Why didn't they ever show more then Nannys green and white striped socks...? or were they red and white.. anyways so yea... I miss those cartoons

RoboticTerrorSTD - 2-2-2004 at 11:55 AM

Muppet Babies were cool! I loved Animal. I think the nanny's socks were green and purple(or lavender whatever). :D

seacaptain - 2-2-2004 at 03:03 PM

I was just reminiscing about Muppet Babies with my friend yesterday! That was the best, I used to watch it every day.

TurtleEnterprises - 2-2-2004 at 04:01 PM

I wish I could disapear into my closet like they did , and have so many adventures. :D

poobs - 2-2-2004 at 11:21 PM

The closet is in your mind!! It was all about imagination and all the places your mind could go! I didn't grasp it fully until the first time I did acid..:o;):D

One of my faves were The Snorks..
