David Bowie

sevenblur - 2-21-2004 at 02:42 PM

Well, as some of you may know, he is currently on tour and I LOVE BOWIE!!! He is amazing in everything he does. He is coming to Miami on May 6, and I am sure there is not going to be any canceling of the show so I am thinking of going, the cheapest ticket will be like $45, but he is a legend and still the sexiest man I have ever seen!!! I was wondering if anyone else has gone or is going to see him live, or do you cats not like him? Whichever, POST IT
Peace

TurtleEnterprises - 2-21-2004 at 02:48 PM

I have the best of Bowie on my computer but i never listen to it, the songs i've heard from him are pretty good, Bowie really isn't my cuppa tea:no:

MichelleRene - 2-21-2004 at 03:54 PM

I have to have a buzz to really enjoy Bowie. I like some of his older stuff. I kinda lost respect for him in the 80's with"China Girl" and "Let's Dance". I don't know, it was just too corny. But, the older stuff was so incredible! So spacey, freaky and weird! Gotta Love it!:D

poobs - 2-21-2004 at 04:29 PM

Aww..I love him! I say go for it! I've never seen him in concert, but I'm sure he's amazing! :D

colforbin6 - 2-21-2004 at 05:36 PM

I grew up listening to bowie with my dad. He's the man. I saw him at the Area 2 show a couple of years ago at Shoreline. If it wasn't for phish vegas, I would go see him in SF for sure. This tour is supposed to be excellent with a rotating set list and a bunch of songs from long ago.

sevenblur - 2-21-2004 at 05:39 PM

I think that I will see him, but I just hope its worth it cause I havent heard his new stuff and the old stuff is great...The Ziggy Stardust days. Have you guys seen Velvet Goldmine? It is suppose to parallel the whole relationship between David Bowie and Iggy Pop back in those days, but the movie has a more love relationship with them. The two actors are Ewan Mcgregor (iggy pop) and Jonathan Rhys Meyers (David Bowie). JRM was in Bend it Like Beckham he was the coach. Anyhow you guys should check out that movie Velvet Goldmine...it was produced by Michael Stipe I think...or he arranged the music...cant remember which one..
I think that I will see David Bowie....i am excited already
Peace Cats

poobs - 2-21-2004 at 07:10 PM

We had some posts about that movie a while ago..It's a good one! The first time I ever got turned on my two men kissing..:o

MichelleRene - 2-21-2004 at 07:21 PM

I think we talked about this one already...so here's a nice photo to remember the movie by....:wow:

RoboticTerrorSTD - 2-21-2004 at 08:20 PM

Oh my goodiness! You should definitely go!!!!!!!! I LOVE David Bowie. I want to go soooo badly but i maxed out my credit card and i don't have shit of money.
:(
...............i still might be a chance..........:wow:

sevenblur - 2-22-2004 at 04:11 PM

I think i have to call one of my friends to see if she wants to dish out $45 to see him....but i really really want to go, but my friend tends to not do anything without her boyfriens....which is lame, but whatever....at least she has someone...C'est La Vie.
Peace

Athena - 2-23-2004 at 04:34 AM

Well I saw David Bowie a while ago when he was on tour with Nine Inch Nails. I have to say that I didn't really grasp the whole who David Bowie was thing at the time, and now I am kicking myself. I do remember that the show was quite dynamic-- enough to keep more little clueless goths (me included) than you would expect engaged... I have really been blown away just in the last couple of years by the whole era that David Bowie came out of. I would really love to see him again.

I did hear an interview on KCRW ( http://www.kcrwmusic.com/find/ -- type in David Bowie) the other day with Bowie and he mentioned that he is mostly only playing songs from his past two albums if that matters. The songs they played during the interview were good... Worse case you should just go alone if you really want to see him! I've gone to several shows alone and had a damn good time by myself, and its not so bad when you are going to a gig at a big concert venue, other than paying for parking all by yourself!

DJAtticDragon - 2-23-2004 at 09:43 AM

Yeah,Bowie is ight, I got one of his album "Earthling" ('97). He breaks away from his normal style and hits the electronica.

As a matter of fact, I have personal connections with one of the marketing managers of the record company Bowie is under. :cool2: I don't know what he could do for me though...

And I liked Bowie in "The Labryth", he was like wicked cool.

He's a bit of trivia on Bowie.
What was David Bowie's original name?

Peace!

colforbin6 - 2-23-2004 at 09:48 AM

David Robert Jones

DJAtticDragon - 2-23-2004 at 10:01 AM

Suffragette City is one of my top ten songs of all time.

DJAtticDragon - 2-27-2004 at 09:57 AM

Another trivia question:

Why did David Bowie change his name?

Peace!

colforbin6 - 2-27-2004 at 11:07 AM

he didn't want to be confused with Davy Jones.

TurtleEnterprises - 2-27-2004 at 11:12 AM

Reality

nurzetrev - 2-28-2004 at 03:17 AM

I'm glad to hear and read the posts about being into Bowie...his Whole catalog is greatness...
even the stuff that might seem corny when taken years out of context...I mean this new album is superb...Reality it's called is so fucking excellent and the guy's how old COl? about 60?
he's part style chaser and style dictator...if you look at all his periods (and this month there's an issue of MOJo completely dedicated to him with TONS of photos and reviews from every album and period), he's truly amazing that he's even been able to keep all this together.
He's always had the best musicians...there's only a few records that I'd shy away from, but you should own at least a few.
This new one's very dynamic and the show shouldn't disappoint. Very dense music and lyrics all around.
trivia...my car tape with the IMA ROBOT record has Bowie's Reality on the other side...

Tix are fucking sold out!!! The concert is in May  ! I guess I will just buy Mojo to check out what I am missing out on :no: I knew that I should have bought the tix in Jan when they first went on sale. Oh well, cant do anything about it now.

The ImaR tix are going on sale at FIU on the 29 of March, so I will be the first one there to buy them!!!!

MichelleRene - 3-20-2004 at 05:09 PM

I'm so glad they're finally playing where you can see them...you're going to have a great time! Take a camera....

sevenblur - 3-20-2004 at 07:31 PM

Yeah Michelle,
I am amazingly excited about seeing them LIVE, I am taking all my friends, or the ones that can come, I am ditching my intership just to go (OOps) I hope that I could talk to them to take pics after their set, Hopefully (crossing fingers). I will wear the badass tie you sent me!!! and tell them you sent it to me! THANKS MICHELLE!!!!
Peace

poobs - 3-20-2004 at 07:37 PM

Whooo!! How fun! Is it just them playing? Or is it Warped or something? Man..I need another Bot fix..:(

sevenblur - 3-20-2004 at 07:47 PM

The show is the MTV Campus Invasion with H**bastink. So, I know that IMAR will play first and hopefully sell shirts or just hang around. I know it might be fille with Frat boys, that love poopystink, so i will be out of place in my outfit. I will definitely load the pics, if I could get some with them, no worries there. PS, i love your avatar poobs.
Peace

poobs - 3-20-2004 at 07:50 PM

Oh cool!! They usually do hang out, so you shouldn't have any issues meeting them..Just do me a favor..Punch one of those frat dicks in the mouth please..I can't stand them.. Just dance around all crazy when Ima Robot comes on (as I'm sure you'll be doing anyways) and flail your arms about and you're sure to smack one of them..:lol:

poobs - 3-20-2004 at 07:50 PM

Oh..And PS..Thanks! My son got them for his b-day last year and put them like that...Hahaa! I can honestly say that I have one of the coolest kids ever!! :duh:

sevenblur - 3-20-2004 at 07:55 PM

The avatar is so funny, I couldnt stop laughing when I first saw it. Your kid seems like he is really cool, probably takes after his mom!! I will most definitely punch one of the frat turds in the mouth, dont worry. I only have one frat friend but I have known him for like six years ( and he is great in bed, so I could stay friends with him). So, will do, I will say "this punch comes with love from poobs"
Peace

Nice.. My brother was actually in a frat, but he's lame..

sevenblur - 3-20-2004 at 08:04 PM

Hahaha....how lame is your brother? Yeah, I just cant stand the frat boys taste in music. They love groups like Creed, but yet like Poopystink, and Disturbed or something, i dont know much about the name of the bands they like, I cant stand that music. SO BAD!!!

poobs - 3-20-2004 at 08:07 PM

He's soooo lame that..Uhh..He just is..But, I bought him the Ima Robot cd for his b-day and he TOTALLY digs it! So, he's getting on my good side..:duh:

sevenblur - 3-20-2004 at 08:14 PM

Well, it seems like he might have some good sense in him if he likes ImaR. So, try to give him more good music that he will have to like. There might be help for him YET!!! You can do it Poobs!!!

poobs - 3-20-2004 at 08:20 PM

I can do it..I can do it..I CAN DO IT!!! :D I'll start burning my Backstreet Boys and N'Sync cds right now!!:yes:

sevenblur - 3-20-2004 at 08:25 PM

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA....that is exactly what you DONT want!!! Then he will turn into Nick Lachey (the guy from 98 degrees). But maybe that will be better that what he is listening to now!!!
Yes POOBS, you can do it, you can do it, YOU CAN DO IT!!!
