English Beat/General Public

Neuwave - 3-8-2004 at 12:48 PM

Went to see the Skeletones(Thanks Fonzo, and Jonas!) open for General Public Saturday night @ The Galaxy in Santa Ana, and got to meet Dave Wakeling. Right before he went on stage, I asked if he would leave a message on my friends voicemail who has been a big fan since junior high school, and he said yes, so I called, she answered, and they totally talked for like a minute, then he handed the phone back, and went on stage(a moment I will never forget). Got to watch the whole show backstage, and in between songs Dave asked me to go to his dressing room, and grab water, and beer for the band. I think I qualify as an official Rudeboy now.:D They played all the classics upgraded to Rock Out:

I Confess
Tenderness
Mirror In The Bathroom
Tears of a Clown
Never You Done That
Save it For Later

You should've seen all the women that hopped on stage. That guy is a legend. One of my all time favorite scenes from a movie is on Weird Science when the boys get to take the girls home in the Ferrari Testarossa, and the Porsche 928, and Tenderness is playing in the background.

I love Mirror in the Bathroom! I love Save it for Later! Go Rudeboy! I remember in the movie "Sid and Nancy", some of them were dressed as such, like The Specials. I like the one girls outfit in the movie: the schoolgirl kinda look. Very cute.

That's so cool to be able to meet someone you love from your past! And that he was cool enough to talk to your friend on the phone.Wow!

If I could meet any favorite from the 80's it would be:

Adam Ant---whenever he gets out of the looney bin.

Dale Bozzio---She's hot!

Mike Monroe---Hanoi Rocks (and the rest of the band)

John Lydon--because he scares me

Daniel Ash---I loved Bauhaus, Tones on Tail & Love & Rockets---and he was very sexxy!

Adam Ant detained in hospital

Adam Ant is set to headline an 80s nostalgia tour

Former pop star Adam Ant has been detained under the Mental Health Act after being arrested for a second time in two days.
On Monday evening police found the 47-year-old singer in the Camden Town area of north London after calls from the public regarding concerns for his safety.

He was taken to the nearby Royal Free Hospital and "sectioned" - legally confined - under the 1983 Mental Health Act.

The 1980s pop star had already been arrested on Saturday night after allegedly pulling out a gun in a pub.

'Safety'

The performer, whose real name is Stuart Goddard, was bailed to appear at Highbury Magistrates Court on Friday.

The singer is currently held at the Royal Free Hospital

After Monday's incident the Metropolitan Police issued this statement: "Police were called at 7.15pm on Monday regarding concerns for the safety of a 47-year-old man.

"Police from Camden located him in the Camden Lock area and took him to the Royal Free Hospital.

"He has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act."

But the singer has protested "I'm not mad", according to the Sun newspaper.

'Abducted'

The Sun said that the singer had contacted the paper from the secure ward where he has been placed and said: "They've put me in the Alice in Wonderland ward because they think I'm crazy."

He claimed he was the victim of a conspiracy and had been "abducted by the police again".

Doctors will be able to hold the singer for up to 28 days, and will be able to decide if he is fit to plead at his scheduled court appearance in Friday.

He is charged with possession of a firearm or imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, after Saturday's incident.

Acting career

He is also being charged with criminal damage and one charge of actual bodily harm on a man in his 40s.

The former punk and later teen idol - famous for dressing as pirates and highwaymen and wearing a white stripe across his face - sold millions of records in the 1980s with hits such as Prince Charming and Stand and Deliver.

Later that decade he moved to California to pursue an acting career, but returned to his native London after some years.

He has a daughter, Lily, who will be four in March.

Adam Ant recently stated his intention to release a single to help the New York firefighters.

He is due to headline a 1980s nostalgia tour in April.

I love ADAM ANT! i never heard anything about that whole incident. His music was/is great and he was so good-looking with his nice make-up (or without)

"When I met you you were just sixteen
Pulling the wings off flies
When an old lady got hit by a truck
I saw the wicked gleam in your eyes
Your sadistic suits my masochistic
And there's a whip in my valise on yeah
Who taught you the torture?"

DylerPlummer - 3-9-2004 at 04:24 PM

We had a program on English T.V last year where Adam talked about his years of suffering with deppression and it really was quite sad.. In the late seventies he really was the dogs bollocks.. Michelle if i could find a way of posting some really early photos you would love 'em.. I'm talking 78/79.. I've got loads of old stuff but don't have a scanner.I became freindly with his long time sidekick Dave Barbe and he gave me loads of early photo's,set lists, old gig flyers loadsa fantastic stuff..

MichelleRene - 3-9-2004 at 04:29 PM

That's so cool Dyler....I did see some old photos of him on one of his sites...they were black and whites of him in the early days. Yeah, Poobs I don't think he'll ever be on again, especially after singing "Save the Gorillas". That's so sad----he needs a healthy dose of Prozac and he'll be on his way..:lol:

I love the old videos I have of him and the Ants....so cool.....

DylerPlummer - 3-9-2004 at 04:35 PM

Jordan was so punk rock...
Adam and Jordan..

MichelleRene - 3-9-2004 at 04:40 PM

Great photo! Who is Jordan?:duh:

DylerPlummer - 3-9-2004 at 05:00 PM

Jordan was Adam and the Ants manager .. She started out as a model for Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood in their Punk shop "Sex".. She also married Kevin Mooney who became one of Adams Ants when they hit the big time with Dog eat dog etc.. She was also in that shit film (apart from the Adam Ant bits) Jubilee..

poobs - 3-9-2004 at 05:02 PM

Jubilee? As in the longest running show in Las Vegas? :o:duh:

DylerPlummer - 3-9-2004 at 05:20 PM

Erm.. I don't think so.. It was a Derek Jarman film made in 1977 about Punk in England,it also featured Toyah amongst others..

MichelleRene - 3-9-2004 at 05:24 PM

Wow.....that's pretty cool.

DJAtticDragon - 3-12-2004 at 09:45 AM

Anyway, I've learned a lot from this thread awesome. Thanx.

oh yeah I think Adams' heart was in the right place on this one. FUCK! I hope I get to see Gorillas in Africa before I die.:( Fuck that I will.:D
