Von Bondies

WarholDisciple - 6-29-2004 at 09:51 PM

Yet another one of my favourite bands.. gotta spread the word.

Whose heard of this one? You may have heard of them from the little spat that Jack White and Jason Stollsteimer (lead singer/guitarist of VBs) got into. Jack beat the shit out of Jason.. but before that they were pals and Jack helped get the word out about the VBs. They're from Detroit and just came out with a new album: Pawn Shoppe Heart. Definitely check them out if you haven't already.:D

avw86 - 6-29-2004 at 10:26 PM

Love 'em! But I like Lack of Communication more than Pawn Shoppe Heart.

I had a chance to see them a few weeks ago at this *tiny* club in San Francisco, but it didn't start till almost midnight and I had my last day of finals the next day! :(

It's funny because I always avoided listening to them because of the whole Jack White fiasco (lame, I know, but I am a candy cane child! :P). Then when I finally listened to them, I fell in love! :D

happysmilely - 6-30-2004 at 09:39 AM

I like them, need to learn more about them however.
good stuff ...

WarholDisciple - 7-1-2004 at 10:41 PM

I'm glad you decided to give them a listen, avw! Lack of Communication is also very awesome.

Marcie Bolen used to be in this kick ass band before the Von Bondies, called Slumber Party. If you're into 60's psychadelic Velvet Underground-esque music, you'd like this. It's 4 girls from Detroit jammin it 60s style. Definitely worth a listen-to. www.slumberpartydetroit.com

yeah... they are very good... and i like lack of communication and cmon cmon the best!

WarholDisciple - 8-30-2004 at 07:21 PM

They're coming to Austin in November! They were supposed to come to Dallas but plans changed I suppose. I would go up there, but it's on a Thursday and Austin is a 3 hour drive from here. I have school the next day, so I don't know if my mom will let me go. However, it's my best friend's birthday and her cousin just recently moved to Austin so it would also be a little birthday trip to visit her cousin. Maybe she'll let me go.

elbrandino - 8-30-2004 at 10:09 PM

i would beg on my hands an knees, and if that didnt work, their's always torture!;)

WarholDisciple - 9-2-2004 at 05:39 PM

I've been talking my parents into it the past two days, remember it's not happening for another 2 months, and they have both said "I'll think about it." With them, that usually turns into a yes. I'm sure I'll have no problem getting them to let me go in these 2 months. Their biggest problem with it isn't me skipping school, but driving there with Kayla. She's not the best driver...

EvilMotivator - 9-2-2004 at 05:52 PM

I really like the Von Bondies. Been Swank is probably my favey song off Pawn Shoppe Heart. Sadly enough I have yet to hear Lack of Communication. I would really like to, though. That whole fight between Jason Stollsteimer and Jack White kind of makes me like them more than I would have. Just that, from what I've read, he didn't fight back. High five to him.

lomax - 9-3-2004 at 08:58 AM

they are wicked on CD. i prefer the 1st to the second. But i have seen them live twice and was v.dissapointed both times

bananaboat - 9-3-2004 at 07:34 PM

I like the song, not that social, that's a cool song. It's my favourite out of the whole CD.

lomax - 9-4-2004 at 02:55 AM

yeah, great track. the womens vocals are immense

prettyvacant - 9-4-2004 at 03:57 AM

not a big fan, kinda adverage. :);)

WarholDisciple - 9-4-2004 at 10:27 PM

I saw them on ... I think it was The Late Show one night, and they actually didn't seem that great live. I'm still really fucking excited to see them though!! Hopefully I won't be dissapointed with them. I hate being in love with a band, and then when I finally see them live they're not that great. That always sucks a fat one.

lomax - 9-5-2004 at 12:23 AM

i think the bassist has left. the one that does the vocals for Not That Social. Carrie, her name is. She has left. Sorry

prettyvacant - 9-5-2004 at 12:32 AM

carrie was the best one!! how come?

lomax - 9-5-2004 at 07:42 AM

dunno. She looked as stiff as a log at Reading. Obviously just got bored

prettyvacant - 9-5-2004 at 12:47 PM

i'd get bored being in a band with jason, he's such an idiot!! :P:P

WarholDisciple - 9-5-2004 at 06:54 PM

Where did you hear that Carrie left? The Von Bondies website REALLY sucks at updating their news and no one on the forum ever knows anything... I read something about it, but that she actually left. I don't doubt it, but that would REALLY suck.

WarholDisciple - 9-5-2004 at 07:04 PM

It's true. Carrie has now officially left the band. They must have just posted that up on their site yesterday or today cuz I was just there a few days ago and it had nothing about it... That's sad! I never even got to see them perform with her in the band. Maybe they'll find someone with some good stage presence to replace her so they can liven up their live shows and it will be worth my 3 hour drive to see them. I keep hearing that they aren't that great live. It really upsets me.

prettyvacant - 9-5-2004 at 11:38 PM

I saw them when Ima Robot supported them and next to Kasabian they were the worst band there, probably drawing with Kasabian. Ima Robot ruled tho!!!! :D:D:D
The thing is, you'll enjoy it anyway cos you really want to see them, even if their stage show isn't amazing.:)

lomax - 9-6-2004 at 12:24 AM

Kasabian are, and were, amazing. I love them

7cut - 9-6-2004 at 12:30 AM

seen the Von Bondies twice --had to, the supported the White Stripes in 2001 and played with IMA in May 04- and don´t like `em. i just don´t think they are special. whether in appearance nor for sound. that "common common" song sticks in my head though.

prettyvacant - 9-6-2004 at 01:28 AM

I just find them dull really. sorry!!

lomax - 9-6-2004 at 03:05 AM

"common common"

yeah, definately. Allthough its C'Mon C'Mon. lol :D

prettyvacant - 9-6-2004 at 06:19 AM

don't you think that Jason kinda blew the whole fight with Jack out if proportion, it takes two to tango and all that jizz.

7cut - 9-7-2004 at 12:21 AM

Jason told Jack that he´s well non-satisfied with their coops and Jack told Jason they´re somewhat of a fucked-up White Stripes imitating band and whaaaam. they had a fight.

prettyvacant - 9-7-2004 at 12:44 AM

wham, now thats a band to hate!! :P:P

WarholDisciple - 9-7-2004 at 12:45 PM

Wow, I didn't realize until now just how little the VB's fan base is. Far more people seem to dislike them than like them. Oh well, I still fuckin love them! I don't really think the whole fight thing was that big of a deal. Shit happens!

prettyvacant - 9-8-2004 at 06:06 AM

I didn't think it was that big of a deal, the media blew it way out of proportion tho.

WarholDisciple - 9-8-2004 at 06:59 PM

Yeah they did. Oh well, it got publicity for the VB's at least!

7cut - 9-8-2004 at 11:26 PM

it added a full new dimension to "hit me baby one more time" but the kings of fighting are still Oasis. i love the story on how they got all smacked up by these Mafia people in Munich...that was long overdue. ha.

lomax - 9-9-2004 at 01:58 AM

yeah, crazy photos. Yeah, TVB got loads of publicity out of that.

Jack White is obviously pretty handy with his fists.

(insert joke about Meg and incest)

7cut - 9-9-2004 at 03:51 AM

anyone can come up with a picture of Liam Gallagher smacked up out of the internet ??? i couldn´t find any but I HAVE TO SEE THIS !!!
he´s such a wanker ...

the whole story ..note: it weren´t "teens", it were a few local Italian mafia dudes..hehe. i do know one of the guys who are responsible for this .. :D

Whilst in the middle of touring their latest album, Heathen Chemistry, in Europe, this Saturday (November 30), Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher became involved in a bar brawl. The fight broke out at the Bayerischer Hof (one of the top hotels in Munich, Germany) in the hotel's lounge. The fight moved into the hotel's foyer when Liam, Oasis drummer Alan White and two members of the band's security got caught up in an unexplained altercation. Liam's brother, Noel, was not present when the attack took place.

As a result of the fight, Liam suffered a couple of broken teeth and facial injuries, which has left the band having to cancel two of their European gigs whilst Liam receives emergency dental treatment on his two front teeth. Also hurt in the attack were two of the band's security guards — both needed hospital treatment. Thankfully, White escaped with no major injuries. The alleged attackers (yes, Liam isn't taking credit for starting the fight) were German teens who ran off before the police could catch them.

A statement was released on the bands website states the following: "Members of Oasis and their entourage were the victims of an unprovoked attack by a group of youths in a Munich club. Liam Gallager sustained facial injuries, including several broken teeth, while two of the group’s security guards were forced to seek hospital treatment, one after being knocked unconscious. The attackers left the scene before police arrived. The police took several of the Oasis group, including Liam, to the local station for questioning in relation to the incident. Police inquiries continue. Meanwhile, all those arrested including Liam have been released. Due to Liams' injuries the concert in Munich and Hamburg has had to be postponed."

Despite Liam's claimed innocence in the brawl, Reuters news service is reoprting that he kicked a German police officer in the ribs. The police also told Reuters that when a group of Italian tourists tried to eject the rowdy Gallagher from the lounge, the Oasis entourage attacked them.

Translation: What? You also know German? That's hard to believe, because you .... like an America girl.
Wasn't sure about "wirkst". However I consider myself fluent in the language, being raised by a German mother who speaks nothing but german around the house.

7cut - 9-16-2004 at 12:11 AM

That´s incredible ...did you live in Germany for some time ? i´m not too hot on Germany .....i like its South but that´s about it. will move to maybe Austria by the end of next year.
