Adam Ant

prettyvacant - 7-26-2004 at 08:34 AM

Really cool. Just thought that it was silly that no one had posted about adam ant seeing as he is so cool. maybe was so cool is more appropriate. he's kinda old now, and doesn't wear the cool clothes or stripe across face.:D

it has occurred to me that i have used the word cool a lot. the ironic thing is, i hate that word! :P

DylerPlummer - 7-26-2004 at 10:32 AM

He was ten times cooler (your word not mine) before the silly clothes and striped face..

Neuwave - 7-26-2004 at 04:07 PM

I just saw Bow Wow Wow Friday night @ the Key Club which is basically the Ants minus Adam plus Annabella. Adrian Young from No Doubt has been filling in on drums for them lately. Jonas from Skeletones was there, and Tony Kanal too. I was really shocked to find out that they didn't like Adam that much, and that Malcolm McLaren convinced them to dump him. It's amazing the little intricacies you don't hear about. Adam is my boy!! Hey, but he did come back with that song "Wonderful". Truly a beautiful piece.

DylerPlummer - 7-26-2004 at 05:01 PM

Mathew Ashman.. R.I.P.. He was my hero...

Bow Wow WoW.. fuck i loved that band.. Who did you talk to about Adam was it Leigh ?
I saw Adam and the Ants in erm.. A long time ago at the Electric Ballroom with Leigh in the line up with Mathew and Dave and then the next thing.. Bow Wow Wow.. I even saw Boy George sing with them (he was known as Leuitenant Lush then).. Anyways i could go on forever about Bow Wow Wow but i won't bore you.. hahah.. Oh yes i will.. I went to quite a few of their early gigs which were fucking superb.. When Bow Wow Wow split they became the Chiefs of relief then Leigh and Dave left and started a band called Atomage who were fucking fantastic (like a cross between Bow Wow Wow and Duran Duran)..
How were they Neuwave?

Oh and did you see the link i done ages ago showing Adam doing "Save the gorilla" (a stand and deliver reworking).. It's mad,sad and erm good..

Fuck my brain hurts.. Sleep time...

I got this of Mathew a few days before he died :(

DylerPlummer - 7-26-2004 at 05:14 PM

Here's the link.. Poor Adam  And poor Boz ..:lol::lol:

MichelleRene - 7-27-2004 at 11:33 AM

Oh man! I love The Ants! I have the video compilation....and the videos are so cool. Gotta love the 80's! I think my favorite video is "Stand and Deliver" and "Kings of the Wild Frontier"...and "Dog Eat Dog" is such a great song! Now I can't wait to get home, put the videos in and crank up the stereo while I make cool 80's clothes.
Man, stuck in the early 80's am I.....sad...

I think Adam was at his hottest in the early years ....the Ants were hot too...in an 80's kinda way....I use to see some of their videos on MTV when I was a kid in the 80's and get so excited! Ahhh....he was pretty hot!

prettyvacant - 7-27-2004 at 01:15 PM

My fave video of all time ever is prince charming. i love adam and the ants so much!

Nah, I read that here (link) about Malcolm while researching an article I was doing.

Awesome!! I stayed upstairs the whole show, but it was great. Annabella had Mucho energy. I regret not trying to meet her.

yeah, I saw that. pretty obscure.

You are one lucky "so-in-so" to have this.

By the way, thanks. I guess I didn't research that enough. I didn't know he had passed. The person on guitar for them now looked similar to Matthew. I think it was Phil Gough from Common Sense???

DylerPlummer - 7-27-2004 at 02:52 PM

Mathew Ashman...

Fuck.. From being one of Adams Ants (before the cabaret), to Bow Wow Wow to Chiefs of Relief.. Have you heard these Neuwave? Not so good on record but my fave live band of all time.. After Dave and Leigh left .. Paul Cook from the Sex Pistols joined on drums and a guy called Duncan who was the drummer from another excellent band called Martian Dance (he also went to see Adam and the Ants in Milan in 78) joined on keyboards and a guy called Lance on bass.. Fuck they were so good and there was always an atmosphere (and 9 times out of 10 a fight) at their gigs.. I also saw Mathew play with Andy Taylor (Duran Duran) and he joined a band called Max which also featured Kevin Mooney (another ex Ant) and just before he died he was in a band called Agent Provocateur which featured Dave Barbs son on drums.. As Mathew never really aged when he was on stage with Daves son it really looked Spooky.. Anyways i told you i'd bore you :D:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Neuwave - 7-27-2004 at 03:09 PM

Dude!! That is the most amazing piece of info I've heard in a long time. You're really up on your history.

DylerPlummer - 7-27-2004 at 03:15 PM

I'll bore you with more tomorrow if you like.. I'm kerry packard.. night night zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Neuwave - 7-27-2004 at 04:37 PM

Deal.

Sorry, I can't get back on a more regular basis, but I do when I think of it, and I have free time. I just wish I knew some of this info before Friday. Would've had a lot to think about instead of drink.

Those damn $6 Newcastles are killing me. Must've drank about $40 worth.:D

Anyway, cheers! I'm headin home. Talk to ya tomorra.

bananaboat - 7-28-2004 at 04:23 PM

Aw that's pretty wicked. Adam Ant is ... cool! I love them so much, I mean Adam and the Ants. It brings on a lot of memories for me too. I love the songs Ant Music and Deutscher Girls.

I'm climbing the hill and can almost see over it.....:yes::(

I remember when Adam and the Ants were popular (?) I saw there videos first on Don Kirshners Rock Concert....eek! I was like: WoWy! A bunch of guys in cool clothes and make up....yeah! Yum yum! I guess that's why my first concert was KISS when I was 8, and other bands I liked in the 80's all kinda resembled that type of look. I love Hanoi Rocks...Poor Mike Monroe hasn't aged too well......

Oh god!! That was a great year. Ditchin' school(11th grade) to go skate @ this old reservoir called the backdoor in Fontana (which is now the site of the local jail), listening to The Cults' Electric album (masterpiece) which was my first official concert w/Guns N Roses opening up for them, me & my friend taking my stepdads VW cabriolet, and spending the night on Laguna Beach with 2 girls, and a blanket. Hey, that's a great title for something "2 girls, and a blanket". I'll never forget the look on his face when he was receiving something from her. Oh man, we laughed about that for years . We used to buy weed from this old lady down the street, and I mean old she had false teeth, but was funny as hell. If I ever get a chance to make a movie there has to be a scene of going to her house. Pure comedy . Oh man forgive me guys for drifting off into memory land, but :wow:.

i'm only 17 and its an irritating age to be at. but i'm not complaining!:)

bananaboat - 7-30-2004 at 08:19 AM

huh? why's 17 an irritating age?
i think being 90 and up is old...

prettyvacant - 8-3-2004 at 12:08 AM

you can't really do anything interesting. I'm moving to brighton but i can't yet because i have to finish college and i can't get a full time job until your 18, correction a decent full time job. So I can't go till I'm 18. Also, 17 is kinda a middle age part of tennage years or whatever you wanna call it. People still don't take u seriously but they expext you to take care of stuff if it goes wrong and parents still have authority, or at least they think they do, until you do something "bad" then "your old enough to look after yourself". grrrrr!
sorry, that sparked off a rant I didn't expect!!!:D

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: we can be old together....:lol:and Neuwave, your the same age as I am? wow! I guess we have been able to see some cool bands over the years....so, it's not that bad. Wow Pretty Vacant, to be 17 again......I had a great time at 17, I graduated high school and went into my first year of college at 17. And saw many a concert at the infamous Hammerjacks in Baltimore. I think everyone played there. I saw everyone from Cindy Lauper, Debbie Harry (solo), Psychedelic Furs, Faith No More to Guns-n-Roses & Kix (a local band who were awesome...especially their first album). Wow....those were the days. Now I'm lucky if I get out a few times a year.:lol:

bananaboat - 8-3-2004 at 09:11 AM

that's cool.
yea i sort of relate to that.

7cut - 8-5-2004 at 02:56 AM

MichelleRene - 8-5-2004 at 07:32 AM

7cut, I've finally bonded with you after all these years. That is my favorite too. If I'm in traffic, and that song comes on everyone should get out of the way.

That one, and "Car Trouble" are definite heart rate increasers. Steve Jones played "Car Trouble" on Jonesys' Jukebox a couple weeks ago while I was on the 10 westbound, and my foot slowly got heavier on the pedal.

This is sitting in my backseat right now.

there is this certain version --available on his official homepage-- with the really heavy enigmatic yodelling and that´s my absolute favourite. i do suck so hard when trying to cover songs from e.g. Le Tigre coz i can´t imitate her voice but although i´m a female i somehow manage to get the Adam timbre. weird.

he´s quite versatile ..most people think too narrow-minded on him. but yeah, "Dirk wears white soxx" is a little gem.

know the video of "puss`n´boots" ? that´s so so so so crappy .haha. my favourite video might be "desperate but not serious" - the way he looks when the gal disappears ..just too silly. and his band there, esp. the rad guy with the 70s `porn`upper lip moustache and track suit clothes.
genius.

Hello to all!

I first time postee here!

Great to see our Adsy taking up so much room on the forum!

I'll have to mention this place to the Ant Massive back in Insectville.
The only problem is, you may get invaded by a plague of Ants.

Now I'm off to check out Ima Robot!

7cut - 8-10-2004 at 06:21 AM

hullo Carty,

7cut = Carina ...just to let you know.

I didn't recognise you from your avatar as you weren't in the bath! ;-)

7cut - 8-10-2004 at 07:06 AM

maybe you´ve already seen me back in the adam-ant.net forum ...but i guess i had like 3 posts there only. with this animated me with a bloody nose pic avatar which would close up on my bleeding nose. it was very Andrew W.K. -ish (but don´t worry, in an ironic way ..i´m not into him at all). hope you dig imarobot.net, if you wanna see Beck Trekkies, check the form of stewoo.net or the bbs.beck.com (i have like over 7000 posts there but it´s currently down unfortunately)

I haven't seen you on the Ant Rap forum as I rarely get time to go there...bad I know!

I'm trying to see if there are any mp3 samples on here to give Ima Robot a listen, but no luck yet! This is big place!

poobs - 8-10-2004 at 01:36 PM

Go to the downloads section..

Carty - 8-10-2004 at 01:37 PM

Funny how I missed that! Geez!

Thanks!

Neuwave - 8-10-2004 at 02:33 PM

Welcome Carty!:D

7cut - 8-11-2004 at 12:10 AM

oh, you could remix some IMA tracks, Carty !!!!!!
they´d LOVE it ......contact Draconian or Phobiac as for this ...

Carty - 8-11-2004 at 12:51 AM

Remix Ima Robot's stuff? LOL!

Well first of all I seem to have a mountain of Ant stuff to work on in time for the annual convention in November.

Plus there are other projects too, so I really don't think I could honestly commit or dedicate much more of my time to other projects for now.

Saying that, I've listened to some of the live stuff in the download section and it has whetted my appetite for more! (SLURP!)

Awesome!! I actually have a remix brewing for the Antman myself, but I'm kind of at a creative block right now. Too busy n all. But I think there needs to be an "Ant-Revival". Heck, everybody else is doing it. Be sure to let us know when you finish, and give updates on the convention. November is quite a ways away. Hopefully something hits me.

Make sure you let me know when you've done your remix. I'd love to hear it. I may get it played at the convention. :D

Talking of which, here's the link for the details: http://www.geocities.com/antliberationfront/news/convention....

Also you may wish to check out my interview with Marco Pirroni on my site (link on this message, I think).

Plus there's more remastered Ant CD's to follow the three just released.

It's gonna be a busy year!

So you HAVE it! Saves me burning and posting another. :-)

So your colleagues opened mailed addressed to you? Naughty naughty! ;-)

7cut - 8-12-2004 at 11:43 PM

yep, they have no respect for me ...tsk. there you go. well, guess they just opened it for they thought it would be some demo accidentally adressed to me. i´ll have to show it to Simone (one of my bandmates and she´s into Adam as well), wonder if she´ll go for it. she once complained you can´t dance to the Ants, now she´ll be proved opposite.
