The Band Members

BlamingHalo - 1-15-2003 at 10:47 PM

can any of you all give me a brief bio/description of the band? Cant locate anything on this site.

And what kind of fan base do you guys have? Ive only seen about 3 people post on here... i think.

Yeah, there are a lot of lurkers who don't post. We expect that to change when the album comes out.

We know that Tim Anderson (guitar) and Alex Ebert (vocals) are the original members. They sometimes DJ in Los Angeles, and Alex has an art gallery there, as well. Ollie Goldstein (keyboards, guitar) is from L.A. and I believe he was part of Ima Robot when they composed the score for the movie "Carving Out Our Name," which has been shown at festivals but may or may not have a distributor as of yet. Justin Meldal Johnsen (bass) came on in late 2001/early 2002 and helped to bring in fellow Beck alumnus Joey Waronker (drums) in the fall of last year.

I know, we should have more complete bios. You can read up on JMJ's music history at his site, justinmeldaljohnsen.com, though--his bio there is very complete.

Hey…Hey…BlamingHalo:

I have some emails from JMJ (Justin Meldal-Johnsen), the bassist, with some bio information on the band. I'll see if I can digest it into anything creative for the site and incorporate it into the main page.

Thanks for posting; you've increased the fan base 33%! Seriously, there are more who post, but it is dominated by the fanatic at this point as Ima Robot could really still be dubbed a L.A. “Buzz Band.” Their debut album will be released by Virgin in the summer of 2003. The band is currently in the studio laying down the tracks for this highly anticipated release.

As drac mentioned, the fan base will grow (I see this as exploding) when or near to the release of the album. As of late, the band has been playing clubs in Los Angeles. The Viper Room, The Troubadour, The Derby, Spaceland, etc. There is really no other way, other than being "in the know", to get the word out on Ima Robot. Once they start playing more live gigs and Virgin starts pumping up the publicity machine, coupled with the bands amazingly fresh sound, this will change.

BlamingHalo; How do you know about the band?

in the know

hey there phobiac,

you seem to be in the know around here. i am very curious as to when the fellas will be making their next appearance in la,ca....... it would be good to know in advance instead of last minute.....i would love to make the next show .....having withdrawls
a big thanks in advance.

poobs - 1-17-2003 at 10:43 AM

Trust me..As soon as Phobiac knows of the next show, he'll post it here! As of right now, the band is pretty much focusing on finishing the album..But like Phob says, they seem to love playing live, so hopefully they'll throw in a show or two soon!:D

i saw them at the...

Troubadour, when Mindless was playing. I came straight from work that day so i missed half of IMA Robot's set. I know there were several people at that show that really really liked IMA Robot's performance, so if they do play, post something about it on the Mindless Board, or i'll do it for you, because i had several discussions with Mindless fans as to what they thought of IMA Robot that were at the Troub show, and 98.973 % of them thought you guys were awesome.

Anyhow... just keep me posted on when they will be playing. I think im on the mailing list, but if not its: Blaming_Halo@hotmail.com

and if they have a street team or something like that, put me on there too, cuz i go to CSUN, and im sure i'd find some people that would like IMA Robot's sound.

I think your best bet in attracting more people is to keep on updating the site, no matter how insignificant it is. I get board going to sites where no one posts or there is no updates.

Until then, hasta luego (---pic that up in spanish class, back in high school).
