Update 1/30/05

Justin - 1-30-2005 at 10:35 AM

Ahh, fatherhood.

What can I say? It's bliss. Minimal sleep, but who cares? Zelly's doing great.

Anyway, the band is moving along well. Last week was sort of busy: after months of deliberations, meetings and second meetings, we've finally decided on our new manager: Tony Ciulla. Tony manages Marilyn Manson and also does Rammstein just for the US. I think he has a couple of other baby bands he's developing, but mostly he is quite busy with Manson's career. Tony is a soft-spoken, wonderfully thoughtful guy who feels that we need to blow up and has lots of ideas about it. His staff is really cool, and his office is right in Hollywood, which is great for all of us. He has a long history in the concert promotion world, and has great contacts worldwide. No one came more highly recommended to us than him. Anyway, we're really stoked about that.

Also on Friday we moved our gear out of our rehearsal studio in the Valley over to Alex's new house on a trial basis. His house literally has a soundproofed studio built into it already, with a separate control room and everything. Anyway, if it works out and seems to sound consistently good in there, it'll save us a bunch of $$ every month. So we set up in there and played together live for the first time since...I dunno....late August? It was very refreshing. Scott's got some fresh new drums, Tim's got a nice new (old) amp, and I've got the same ol' shit. I was playing my Thunderbird that I always play, which was cool, but now I'm thinking of switching to Fender basses, since that's officially the company I endorse. Also, this new company in New York called First Act tracked me down and is making me a fully customized, very unusual bass...possibly my first "signature" instrument! We'll see how it turns out. They also built Nick Zinner's guitar, as well as stuff for the Cure, Franz Ferdinand, etc. But who knows? Maybe a good ol' Fender P-Bass will do the trick.

God, are you bored already? Enough gear talk. Sorry!

So yeah anyway: next week we're going to rehearse and write together in more of the full band "loud" format and see how that goes.

Lastly, we definitely want to play a show or two here in LA, as soon as late Feb/early March, though that may be ambitious. We'll let you know first, way ahead of time, of course. Just small club stuff, you know?

Much love,
JMJ

I have a feeling some greatness is going to come out of that new set up. Alex must be on cloud 9. Sounds like the perfect creation palace. I'm sure the comfort of being in your own recording space will breed amazing outcome.

Congratulations in getting of the business side stuff in order JMJ. I'm sure that takes some pressure off.

Sounds like you have your hands very full. I believe that I met Tony Ciulla. It was at a Vivid Video party and I think he was with Steve Hirsch, the owner of Vivid. I think they're friends? Fun party!

Always flaunting his Cristal n' coke lifestyle, that Phobiac. It's just not fair to the rest of us. While Neuwave and I are prowling the streets like rabid dogs, Phobiac is getting his iCrotch recharged by Jenna and her cohort.
