Remember the post from way back when I found some list of songs played prior to Duran Duran shows (chosen by one of the band members) and Song #1 was up in there! So they must have been fans for a while...

This is great news, should be excellent exposure!

Yep! I totally remember that Drac. It was John Taylor, another song he chose was LCD Soundsystem "Losing My Edge", and I remember thinking how I liked that song too.

oh someone already guessed that- oops. theres no way theres more than that.

anyway, So im reading the march issue of Stuff today and got real excited for a tiny little mention of the band. It was just a "if you like _, you might like _." sort of thing at the bottom of a review for the Faint's Wet from Birth (great album, btw) but i thought it was cool. just wanted to share:)

JunoRedneck - 2-12-2005 at 08:11 PM

draconian - 2-13-2005 at 07:23 AM

Imarob, that's actually a pretty cool mention in Stuff of all places. I remember when the Ima Robot album came out, there were a lot of people on here comparing them to the Faint, or vice/versa.

imarob - 2-13-2005 at 08:41 AM

I guess i can kinda see the comparison now, i just never really thought of them playing similar music...
thanks agesofruin, good job to you too.

AgesOfRuin - 2-13-2005 at 09:46 AM

Alrighty! Just a quick Q. Are the dates posted the confirmed dates that IMA will be showing? Because I dont' care wot the tickets cost, I'm going if they are coming. But at ticketmaster, it didnt' really specify more than one confirmed date-- please help.

Phobiac - 2-13-2005 at 10:51 AM

they're from timmy. so the you're just ahead of the information curve.

they will be confirmed soon. ticketmaster is just slow to react.

happysmilely - 2-13-2005 at 11:42 AM

I wish I had the cash for that :(

minimandy14 - 2-13-2005 at 12:06 PM

me too :( cause i really wanna go and damn why do tickets have to cost so much!

happysmilely - 2-13-2005 at 04:37 PM

that and I would only go to see Ima. I hope another show comes soon. I would even pay that much, but school costs so much, I'm very short on cash, very. :(

oh well, I hope for a nice cheap all ages very near home and not on one of the days I need to go to school or work, tus thurday or sunday.

Why didn't you just go by yourself?

7cut - 2-22-2005 at 01:11 AM

Because i wasn´t that confident -nor drunk enough. maybe i´d have if i´d had a few drinks more. it´s just a weird feeling standing in the limelight. i envy people just going up the stage and doing a great show on their own, it´s easier with others....some people are damn confident even though their voice might be crappy. not to claim mine was any better, i sound like a psychotic 8-year-old ;)

Phobiac - 2-27-2005 at 10:48 AM

[Arrive without traveling]

Wow!

I’ve got to say that they sounded really tight, very impressive. Ima broke out the set with Alive; unfortunately we were still in the beer line, but made it down to our seats before Alive was over. 4th row was pretty sweet. I have never stood that close at a big arena show.

The new songs are very cool. Tim was correct when he told me they (the songs) were much more mature than their previous work. One of the new ones, “...Hello Operator…” really sounds familiar to me; I’m listening to a New Years show Ima Robot did back in 2000? At Moomba because I’m sure it’s on there. The other new one they played (that I remember) was about looking like an alien? A fun song that reminds me or of an evolution of The New Negatives; I think The New Negatives really never survived past the Spaceland and The Troubadour shows back in October of 2002. I’m sure there were other new ones played, but escaping me right now. Other songs played; Scream, Philosophofee, 12 = 3, Dynamite, Black Jettas.

I’m surprised Filip learned everything so quickly! Fits in very well; looked like they were having a blast up there.

No photo-pass so I didn’t bring my camera in. What was really funny was everyone around me had cameras, but they weren’t around during the Ima set so any luck getting pics from them wasn’t happening…

Saw Neuwave there. Again, always good seeing you buddy. Hope that your after party was a good one. We were pretty drunk; lost the new 6-series coupe I was driving, stopped and ate bacon wrapped hot dogs on the corner, found the car, and then ate double-wrapped bean and cheese burritos at Chanos on Figuero and 28th Street (over by USC). That was once a daily meal for me back in school. If you are ever around there you must go, the best burritos in Los Angeles.

Duran Duran….I’ll save that for later…an encore of White Lines….vision dreams of passion…very cool…

[/Arrive without traveling]

JunoRedneck - 2-27-2005 at 10:56 AM

Sweet. Now I'm all excited for the San Jose show. Well, I was before. But now I'm even more excited. I'm glad you had fun Phob. I think Evil and I are gonna try to sneak a camera in so we'll try to get some pictures.

Jette - 2-27-2005 at 02:14 PM

6-series!!!!!!!!!!!!:o

It was great seeing you too bud (the girls sure got along great didn't they?). I have to admit the sound sucked where I was, but it was still a great time. It was really cool seeing Tim & Alex making a left turn in front of me on Olympic & Figueroa before the show. One of the new songs really caught my ear. It was great. Can't wait to hear it again close-up. Registered at Holiday Inn across the street, and had dinner there. Was listening to the people next to me talk about seeing Duran Duran, and they were like, "Is there a band opening for them?", and one person replied, "Yeah, IMA Robot!!" really loud. I like little things like that. :D

Totally jealous, I wish I had a car, I would drive down to Seattle and sneak in to the show, but alas, I don't.

AgesOfRuin - 3-2-2005 at 09:38 AM

SO JEALOUS!!! I'm so glad I'm moving to calgary this year. I'll get to see any shows they end up at. They seem to keep going there, I hope it stays that way *shivers*

Neuwave - 3-2-2005 at 01:28 PM

P.S. I nearly lost my mind when Duran Duran played "Tiger Tiger". It's definitely one of my favorites, and one I didn't expect to be on the setlist.

JunoRedneck - 3-3-2005 at 11:57 AM

The San Jose show was awesome. Evil and I had floor seats in the 12th row, so we had a good view. Ima was awesome, as always. They played a lot of good old songs and 3 new ones, including Disconnect, Voodoo Love, and another one that we later found out was called Hot Banana. Evil knows the whole setlist, so I'm sure she'll post it later. We were the only ones standing in the whole place when they were on. People seemed to be getting into it after a couple songs, and I even heard a few attempts of singing along to Scream during the third chorus. Filip seemed cool and like he totally fit in with the band and it's sound. We talked to the guys a bit after the show, and they were pretty stoked we liked the new songs. We took a few pictures during the show, but I'm not too sure how well they'll turn out. I guess that's about it. All in all, it was an awesome show.

EvilMotivator - 3-3-2005 at 01:31 PM

Alive
Voodoo Love
Disconnected
Dirty Life
Let's talk Turkey
Scream
Ages of Ruin
Hot Banana
12=3
Black Jettas

I think that's how it went. I don't really have anything to add to Juno's thing. But remember, if you tell some one "Good shower," it brings you good luck.

My Evening With Ima Robot. by Dallon Weekes

namey - 3-13-2005 at 08:54 PM

I bought my ticket for the Druan Duran show in order to see my favorite band: Ima Robot, then I went to get something delicious to eat because i was way early. and hungry. but as im approaching the crosswalk to of course cross the street, who do i happen to meet, but Alex, Tim, and Filip? needless to say we had a lovely conversation, they gave me a backstage pass and i hung out with them in their dressing room and got to watch the show from the stage. afterwards i said my thank you's and goodbye's and made my way to my out, but on the way i got to watch Duran Duran doing a warm up set. after that was done i left. and to top it all off i sold my backstage pass and ticket as i was leaving. the whole night was free!!!!!!!
