draconian - 3-14-2003 at 06:12 PM

How about being responsible FOR AN ENTIRE CONTINENT?

connect4 - 3-14-2003 at 06:16 PM

why stop at a continent- lets go for the whole southern hemisphere!:D

draconian - 3-14-2003 at 06:17 PM

You got it! I should send you three more stickers, then.

connect4 - 3-14-2003 at 06:34 PM

seacaptain - 3-14-2003 at 07:19 PM

I got Boston covered!

JerseyJoJo - 3-15-2003 at 08:29 AM

I'm not sure what I could do, but I'd be glad to promote in some way :)

dnewton - 3-15-2003 at 05:15 PM

Sign me up, baby.

Dave

seacaptain - 3-15-2003 at 09:32 PM

OK the way I see it is:

Dave = Canada
Connect4 = Australia
Stewoo = Europe
Me = east coast US
Lara = middle of the US
all the LA people = west coast / South America / Africa / Asia

World domination!

draconian - 3-15-2003 at 10:17 PM

Who will bring the message to the
Inuit

seacaptain - 3-16-2003 at 07:44 AM

Dave's in Canada...

draconian - 3-16-2003 at 08:05 AM

As long as he doesn't ignore the booming Winnepeg music scene, we're covered.

dnewton - 3-16-2003 at 08:29 AM

Easy, I got the Inuits and Winnipeggers covered. Canada's not that big, I can walk just about anywhere in 10 minutes. I'll take care of everything...

Dave

RiffRaff - 3-17-2003 at 12:58 AM

My fridge has an IMA sticker on it, so all who pull beers from it are magically converted to fans.

draconian - 3-20-2003 at 05:33 PM

Still waiting for Connect4's incredible story about meeting JMJ in Melbourne and whipping out an imarobot.net sticker, to his great surprise. Rumor is he has a cool snapshot with JMJ and Joey, as well.

RiffRaff, are you planning on Coachella this year?

connect4 - 3-20-2003 at 10:36 PM

yes, drac is correct, i had the pleasure of meeting Justin and also Joey before Beck's first Melbourne show! Basically, it was a meeting of great coinidence- i was just walking round the side of the theatre when i saw a little guy with messy hair (beck) and another bloke, who happened to be justin- i said hi and whipped out my ima robot stickers (courtesy of imarobot.net!)- he seemed pretty impressed- either that or scared!!- and he was more than happy to have a chat about the upcoming album- a really approachable guy- fortunately i had my camera with me, so justin grabed joey for a happy snap to remember the occasion! both guys were really friendly, and were amazing on stage- overall, a great night!!!

RiffRaff - 3-25-2003 at 04:45 PM

No Coachella for me. Aint got the $. But definitely hitting up the LA show(s).

when i spoke to justin in australia (name dropper!) i asked about this and he said there were no Ima robot t-shirs :(

draconian - 4-8-2003 at 07:02 AM

There's no merch yet, but Phobiac was lucky enough to snag the shirt that was on eBay last month--it's pretty cool, red with white logo...I think the guy who was selling it had it from some sort of video shoot? We still don't have the full scoop on this one.

connect4 - 4-9-2003 at 01:53 AM

phobiac, got a pic of your t-shirt? how is it?

Phobiac - 4-9-2003 at 08:52 PM

It's a good shirt. It's a red shirt. One of a kind? I'm not sure, but nobody really knows much about it. Strange that it has the bands logo on it and everything.

poobs - 4-10-2003 at 09:30 AM

And who alerted you to the sale of the shirt?? ;):D

Phobiac - 4-10-2003 at 09:57 AM

Yeah, how-bout that. Poobs sniffed that one out. :D

I have a shirt!

jolie - 5-5-2003 at 03:47 PM

I actually have two. I gave one to my sister, but I've got that same red shirt, but in navy blue with a white logo.

Does that mean I get to join this street team as well? Because I was on their old one...and now that they've gone more mainstream, I'd like to represent Arizona!

Phobiac - 5-5-2003 at 04:22 PM

Man, coming out of the woodwork!

Jolie representing the Grand Canyon State.

draconian - 5-5-2003 at 06:09 PM

foxyhardcore - 6-28-2003 at 11:00 AM

i know kids who work at record stores in chicago, st louis, and kansas city. if that helps any. and maybe jersey city (random).

draconian - 6-29-2003 at 08:54 PM

Them's good people. I was also thinking knowing college radio programmers might be an asset, too. It's fairly easy to get into rotation at the U of MN's station, I know.

car539 - 6-30-2003 at 04:38 PM

any street teams for the midwest, especially chicago?

xinepi - 8-10-2003 at 01:14 PM

TheSmartestMonkey - 9-12-2003 at 06:09 PM

Gary Numan is my hero.

prom - 9-25-2003 at 02:27 AM

Vancouver, Canada here... What does this all involve ? I'm all about giving *good* new bands exposure ! :P

draconian - 9-25-2003 at 03:50 AM

Now that we know where you are, we can get in contact with you for local promotion. For now, that means bugging your local record stores to carry the album and radio to play the single.

Send me a U2U and I will get some stickers out to you for your car or Seque.

prom - 9-26-2003 at 12:11 PM

I work at a strip club and I had the DJ playing 'the dirty life' all night last night. hehe.

draconian - 9-26-2003 at 01:00 PM

That is the funniest insert of an Ima Robot song I have ever heard...I almost want to fit it into the FAQ somehow.

prom - 9-30-2003 at 01:19 AM

heheh it went over pretty well too !

I can just see someone remixing that song for some reason.

.Net Team

draconian - 10-4-2003 at 05:49 AM

Okay you guys, the .net team is being called up--no you won't have to stand guard outside the hospital Vito Corleone is staying at, it's actually much easier than that.

Some of you have already been recruited for a job we need done on this tour - if you're going to any of the remaining Hot Hot Heat shows and wouldn't mind compiling a list of emails from people in the audience who would like to keep informed about the 'Bot, please let me or Phobiac know so we can coordinate. It's the easiest way to put together a mailing list, without having to rely on them finding us or .com on a computer. You will be rewarded for your efforts!

Thanks!

Street Team!

xXConcreteEyesXx - 10-9-2003 at 03:20 PM

I definitly want to be a part of Ima Robot's street team. That would be grand. And convienent..they're going to be in AZ on November 1st i believe...so yay!

Phobiac - 10-25-2003 at 08:38 AM

lomax, you live in Oxford?

I use to live in Risinghurst, Oxford right next to lovely Barton.

Where in Oxford do you live?

I remember that on the corner of High Street and Oxford (the stree the run right in front of the tower) that there was a Boots, a HMV Music and a Virgin Music. Are they still there?

Many drunk nights walking back to Risinghurst eating a Donor Kabab or a large packet of chips with lots of salt and malt vinegar on them!!!

draconian - 11-15-2003 at 04:07 PM

Yo, Dontneedno--what city in Mich are you in? It helps if there are any targeted radio campaign-type things in your area, then we know to contact you.

lomax - 11-20-2003 at 06:36 AM

hey! how many people you got 'teaming in britain for when the lads come over?

draconian - 11-20-2003 at 11:21 AM

Quite a few, actually. When Song #1 gets the official release there, we'll be on you to make some phone calls/emails to the radio stations with requests.

kickstand - 11-20-2003 at 01:47 PM

I am curious if Ima Robot would ever consider stopping in Arcata (Humboldt County the real northern California). It is a great place to stop on your way from SF to Portland or Seattle. There is a great music scene up here too, The Cutters are the best local band around(great dance pop rock music). Anyways, I guess I am doing some wishful thinking! I go to Humboldt State and sometimes miss being able to see good music often.

Street Teamer Alert

draconian - 11-25-2003 at 02:17 PM

Hey guys--

There are a lot of "End Of Year Best-Of" lists being compiled for local radio shows right now. Let's rally up and put Ima Robot on as many as we can. I'll add links to some of the places you can send emails to here. If you have any to add, please post and I'll compile them on the main list.

1) Radio K Top 77 Of 2003
Deadline: December 15
Submit your top 20 and tune in on New Years Eve and New Years Day to hear the TOP 77 of 2003. All lists should be sent to music@radiok.org with the subject "Radio K Top 77 2003"
Link: HERE

2) Not a year-end list, but you can voice your opinion about Ima Robot's "Dynomite" on KROQ's 2004 Calendar CD. You have to sign up to be on their street team to vote:
KROQ

3) Spin's 2003 Reader's Poll
Deadline: November 30
Link: HERE

[Edited on 11-25-2003 by draconian]

draconian - 11-25-2003 at 03:48 PM

Addendum: I highly recommend voting for Evanescence as worst new band in the Spin poll.

Goulet - 11-26-2003 at 05:43 PM

Umm, I'm in denver and would be happy to help out. I'm only 16 though, so I was kept out of the show here with Junior Senior. I did get a shirt, though. And a sticker for my car.

draconian - 11-26-2003 at 05:58 PM

Nee-haw! Nice avatar. Well you can send emails to the things listed above. Hopefully Ima Robot will return to your area for an all-ages show--it sucks that you under-21s miss out so frequently.

Goulet - 11-27-2003 at 06:37 PM

Yeah, I wish there were less 21+ shows. Most shows here are actually 16+ for some reason, which was annoying until I turned 16.

Vote For Musictap.net Album Of The Year

draconian - 12-3-2003 at 05:03 AM

A quick email to:
mattrowe@musictap.net

With "Album of the Year" in the subject line, plus your vote, would be much appreciated!

smatz151 - 12-3-2003 at 08:53 AM

I definately want to join the street team. I am located in phoenix and can spread the word like wildfire.

smatz151 - 12-3-2003 at 08:56 AM

i work for the edge 103.9 fm in phoenix and am pushing to get them to play more robot songs on our station. Currently we are only playing dynomite.

draconian - 12-3-2003 at 05:12 PM

Excellent! Do you have any specialty shows over there that you can push Black Jettas for?

Count Me IN!!

sevenblur - 12-21-2003 at 08:14 PM

I would like to be included in the eTeam for Ima Robot, I will do all I can to spread the word, especially on here in the South, or Miami, FL to be more specific. I would love to see you guys live down here. So I would love to be part of the team, count me in

[Edited on 22-12-2003 by sevenblur]

moonchild - 1-20-2004 at 09:00 PM

:saint:

draconian - 2-9-2004 at 08:14 PM

Here's a minor, though effective, strategy for getting Ima Robot on the airwaves.

They do attract a lot of play on Specialty Shows, from jocks who appreciate Ima Robot's deviation from the norm and are willing to give them a plug or two.

Take Cities 97 here in Minneapolis, for example. Totally not Ima Robot's format (though what is, really) but here we're talking soft rock album tracks throughout the day, the kind of music that pipes over the air when you're working at Sbarro or something.

Well they have this show on Sunday nights called Freedom Rock which showcases "independent, imported, and new releases" on a weekly basis. Ima Robot's "Alive" was played a week ago, so I sent the host, Brian Oake, an email thanking him for surprising me by playing them, and letting him know about the upcoming show in our area.

Well damned if he didn't put it back on the playlist again this week. And I got an email response from him with some nice comments about the band, as well.

Something tells me that, in smaller markets at least, not a lot of people bother to write to these Specialty Show hosts either thanking them for playing stuff they like, or turning them on to new music (read: Ima Robot).

So go out there and send some personalized emails, and we'll see what happens. Post your responses here and we'll go to the giveaway drawer for some of the better successes.

avw86 - 3-16-2004 at 05:13 PM

I just got three people into Ima Robot today! Score one for Amanda ;-)

Another effective strategy is to post about them on other message boards. I always talk about them on thestrokes.com MB. I've gotten a few people into them.

::taps fingers together a la Monty Burns:: Excellent....:-D

Nice job. I hate the hammer-over-head street team approach. People are too cynical for it, anyway. Just have to ease them in subtly...

Seb - 3-25-2004 at 11:40 AM

Ive got Vancouver covered, unless its too late to join...

draconian - 3-25-2004 at 02:43 PM

Sebbie, I sent your stuff out again today. I had sent it last week, but it came back returned...and empty. This is the third time I've had someone at the Post Office swipe the contents of something I've sent out!

So let me know when (and if) you get this next one.
