A Is For Action

seacaptain - 5-17-2003 at 08:17 AM

A is for action
P is for paranoid, a is for anger
Out here in the void
C is for countdown
O is for over
LYPSE are for your lips smashed on mine when the world blows up

Hang hang hang on
Where do they go?
Save your souls now
Got to stay strong
Hang hang hang on
Hangin' on hangin' on
Til the old man bangs a gong

G is for greed
O is for order
V is for villains in the 3-piece suits defining the borders
E is for empire
R is for revenue
N is for not for me but was
MENT was meant for you and me

Hang hang hang on
Where do they go?
Save your soul now
That's a place to start
Hang hang hang on
Hangin' on hangin' on
Til the old man bangs the gong

We don't care if we're all right
All we wanna do is fight
Who cares if we're all right?
Who cares when we can just fight?

D is for disease
E is for entropy
A is for acceptance so drop your funeral weapons
T is for time [tick tock tick tock...] and you ain't got much left
H is for heaven or hell now let's hear it for
DEATH

Beggars, poets, hustlers
Wall Street, rich boy suckers
Why, friends, you know that no side's
better in the end
We're all gonna fry together

Hang hang hang on
Where should they go?
Save your souls now
That's a place to start
Hang hang hang on
Hangin' on hangin' on
Til the old man bangs

Hang hang hang on
Where do they go?
Save your souls now
That's a place to start
Hang hang hang on
Hangin' on hangin' on
Til the old man bangs a gong

You are so quick. I think the boots are clear enough that we should be able to pull the lyrics from them.

seacaptain - 7-21-2003 at 11:17 PM

Added a bunch

These lyrics are very cool

poobs - 7-22-2003 at 03:43 PM

This is what I get (in bold)

V is for villains
In the 3-piece suits
Defining the borders

R is for revenue
N is for not for me ??

D is for disease
E is for entropy
A is for acceptance
So drop and shoot no weapons
T is for time
And you ain't got much left
H is for forever in hell so let's hear it for DEATH

draconian - 7-22-2003 at 04:14 PM

C is for countdown
O is for over
Lips--? are for your lips smashed on mine
**note - lips for the "lypse" in apocalypse
When the world blows up

and

R is for revenue
N is for not for me but was
Meant **the end of government, ment-**for you and me

and instead of "that's the best place to start" I always thought it was "got to stay strong"

then I have the same as Poobs:
D is for disease
E is for entropy
A is for acceptance
So drop your funeral weapons
T is for time - tick tock tick tock tick tock
And you ain't got much left
H is for heaven or hell
Now let's hear it for death

Beggars, poets, hustlers
Wall Street, rich wife, suckers
Why, friends, you know that no side's
better in the end
We're all gonna fry/fight together

* I love this song, the lyrics are awesome and frightening...plus Joey's drum fills after the line "when the old man bangs the gong" are ridiculous.

Edited in changes

Also tried to make the letters read obvious, as best I could

seacaptain - 10-1-2003 at 05:38 PM

Hmm, how about "funeral weapons"?

Or maybe "futile"?

Is "feutal" a word?

draconian - 10-1-2003 at 06:14 PM

I'm 99% sure it's funeral weapons. I wish it were "feudal." This song would however turn into a Monty Python movie for me.

seacaptain - 10-1-2003 at 07:30 PM

Oh I didn't notice you had funeral up there before. That's enough of a consensus for me!

Phobiac - 10-1-2003 at 07:45 PM

let's brake the consensus....again..has to be:
Quote:

A is for acceptance so drop your futile weapons

What's a funeral weapon?

[Edited on 2-10-2003 by Phobiac]

seacaptain - 10-1-2003 at 08:13 PM

I don't know, weapons that cause death?

It wouldn't be the first time Alex invented his own phrases...

Flamez - 1-28-2004 at 03:23 PM

Hi! I was wondering if anyone could tell me who the song writers are of 'A is for action', and when it was written. I'm doing a music project and I picked this one!:D Yay! Thanks in advance!

draconian - 1-28-2004 at 06:15 PM

Alex Ebert wrote the lyrics. Song credited to the entire band. Written fall 2002, likely, as it had its first live performance 11/22/02 at The Derby in Los Angeles.

Flamez - 1-29-2004 at 03:44 AM

:o Wow! Thanks a bunch! that was really fast!

Flamez - 1-29-2004 at 12:00 PM

i got an other question, is there any place you can go to see like what Alex meant about the song, like the message of the song? I like to know. It would really help! :)

poobs - 1-29-2004 at 01:34 PM

Go to their next show in your area and ask him!! He's awfully friendly!!;):D

Flamez - 1-29-2004 at 02:42 PM

really? sounds like a cool guy! :D

draconian - 1-29-2004 at 02:45 PM

Read some of the interviews from him in the FAQ. I'm pretty sure he's said many times that he prefers people to interpret the lyrics in their own way. We used to be nutsos about getting EXACT words for all the songs, and he would always enjoy the different interpretations we had for the lyrics themselves.

Anyway, I personally see the song as being a rallying type cry for mobilization. If you want a paper topic, try that this is the Holden Caulfield of songs in that the words say go go go but on the other hand, it might all be futile because we're all going to fry in the end. That might be a little deep but, trust me, teachers love that kind of crap.

Flamez - 1-29-2004 at 03:24 PM

LoL Thanks! Thats great! lol thanks alot you guys! My teacher will just eat that up, thanks to you, i'm sure to get an A! lol

to be 100% correct: alex spells it 'apacolypse'. :P
in the dictionary, it's 'apocalypse'.

Flamez - 2-4-2004 at 03:49 PM

oh I see.. hmm very interesting. oh and I will post my mark! lol :D

mojojojo - 2-8-2004 at 07:25 AM

Ooh, I'm going to be pedantic again.. I think it's "We don't care if we're WRONG OR right.." and it seems like a pacifist, nihilist type of song, if you can be both a pacifist and a nihilist at the same time..
Yes, I am aware I talk rubbish.

xxx

poobs - 2-8-2004 at 10:40 AM

Yeah..That's totally it..That's what I've been singing all along at least..:duh:

Flamez - 2-8-2004 at 02:25 PM

uh, quick question, what's a pacifist? ?

draconian - 2-8-2004 at 04:37 PM

Pace-peace
pro-peace

Flamez - 2-9-2004 at 11:43 AM

I presented my project today (we get to play the song first) and nobody heard of Ima Robot (poor fools :P ) but after I played it, everyone loved it! They were like ' I want that song" and , oh man, it was too cool! The teacher really liked my write up, and the Holden Caulfield part! Thanks soo much draconian! I didn't get my mark yet but it's sure to be a good one! :D

draconian - 2-9-2004 at 04:12 PM

Ha! I can't believe you used that. Congratulations, you are officially the first known person to use Ima Robot as the subject of a school project!

poobs - 2-9-2004 at 06:39 PM

Whooo! Nice job! I used them as an example in my marketing class of how to promote a band that's new..:D My teacher practically creamed in her pants cuz I made such great suggestions!

draconian - 7-7-2005 at 04:21 PM

You have to post your report.

minimandy14 - 7-7-2005 at 04:38 PM

Yea, I'm curious to see what it was about. . . is this a college paper or a high school paper? And I totally know what you mean about stupid dumb asses saying stuff about IMA Robot when they haven't even heard them before!

corkey16 - 7-8-2005 at 08:17 AM

There is a website that I seen about that college when Ima Robot, H****stank, and Lostprohet did that concert thing last year and all the students booed and called Alex gay. I read about it and it pissed me off and I left a very bad message to the school and the students. They were saying that H****stank and Lostprohet were better than Ima Robot and I read that they were calling them names. How stupid!!! Yeah, I'll try to find it again so us all can leave messages to there crappy ass school!!! ;)

minimandy14 - 7-8-2005 at 12:21 PM

This dude that I used to know in one of my classes used to make fun of me because I like ima robot and he used to be all like "what are you listening to? IMA ROBOT?! That lame ass band" and stuff like that so im stuck sitting there going "you've never even heard them! shut up and stop speaking out of your ass!" it was kinda funny though. . . . I had the hugest crush on that dude. . . .
