Steve Lamacq Rebel Playlist March 31st, 2003 -->

So we have our first report of a play on
BBC Radio One. Thanks to Dee from the Beck BBS for the tip. She only heard the trail end of "and that was Ima Robot," but she did have this info:
"It was in the steve lamacq live slot, but hue & bethan was presenting."
That was at about noon pacific time.

"Saturday 31 May
X Is Greater Than Y are YOUR NEW FAVOURITE BAND this week.
There are live session tracks from Nada Surf.
And Keith Cameron is back will more despatches from the indie-rock firmament.
Ima Robot won this week's REBEL PLAYLIST with their debut single 12=3. Check back here on Wednesday for the next batch of hopefuls."
Anyone have info on what this Rebel Playlist is all about? A big attaboy to Ima Robot anyway for winning something...and for getting major airplay in
the U.K.!

You can actually listen to the show with Real Player. You have to go to the BBC Radio 6 site and click on Lamacq's show, the player should pop up.
Likely good only through the coming week. Note that you can skip ahead five minutes on it.
Maybe Phobiac can dig up the exact link.

Just found out that the song played today was "Sex Symbols On Parade." They must be getting some great buzz in the UK right now...

For those that don't want to deal with the BBC 6 site here is the Rebel Playist Spot from Steve Lamacq show in MP3 format.
Ima Robot is the second song, 12=3 (Here Come The Doctors) and they won! That means they'll get more exposure on the playlist this week!

Sex Symbols

Follow this link: Sex Symbols
to find the June 2 Lamacq replay of "Sex Symbols." In a curious twist, the band is listed as being named "Sex Symbols In Paradise" and the track "Ima
Robot." Feh. Fast forward to circa 17:35:00 to find it.
Anyhow, this must be the final EP version. Good stuff. Alex sounds a little like Karen O. in this version.
And the lyrics are clear, at last. "All you see is the Earth, all you see is these girls."

So is it "Sex Symbols in Paradise" or "Sex Symbols on Parade"?
draconian - 6-7-2003 at 08:40 PM
On Parade, I think BBC Radio messed it up.
seacaptain - 6-7-2003 at 08:51 PM
Ah yes I just listened to it and the DJ said "parade" and it's in the lyrics too

Here's a quick couple download links to the two tracks that are getting air time on the BBC.
