Up on the myspace. At least, I've never heard this recording of it. It's pretty hot though.

"JESUS CANDLES!!

in bout 2000 cd or ad whatever ima robot recorded this one... alex was living in liberacci's (spelling? Im tired...kinda) piano warehouse in Pico and Fairfax's EthiopiaLand - diectly above the studio he shared with Timmy and friends - and IN said dwelling were usually mostly always candles - the ones, you know the ones... and back then, being somewhat into the occult-from-a-distance (---for fear and ignorance, of course) (btw this is Alex writing this here in 3rd person... nice, yes?) AND suffering from an overwhelming condition of superstition-ness, alex endowed the candles with quite a bit of lore-ic power....of course being on drugs and all that as well (which was lame and made me an asshole, the drugs...or at least fanned the flame of the asshole within- but which I, for some reason, still manage to brag about as if it were some stamp of having lived more completely or something as idiotic as that...if that is idiotic...or correct... not entirely sure really....probably idiotic) (but best to be truthfull over all the others) ANYHOO.... yes... and while sitting at the desk I had recently aquired a desk wooden and faded and rich in its simplicity, I remember writing this one's lyrics...staring at smoke pouring from incense and my face, staring at the new Jesus candle on my desk, etc... It must have been just after Valentines day with SHE (perhaps she would not want her name dropped) at MacAurthur park... champagne and peddle boats... and crack and whatnot. ahh, yes, it was all very romantic then. (no longer romantic now... just silly and somewhat sad...)
And then in the Apt...candles - christian - and christianity then felt dark and plotting, powerfull and deathly, but attractive - representing the polarities of good and evil... and to engage with them was to engage in the NOTION of good and evil...and suddenly the GAME of it...to choose SIDES, etc.. and this song was within that time that I was playing with the powers of the darker side in things, the clunky, heavy power of pupose and battle.

the other version we had was live right?

beedun - 7-24-2008 at 09:31 AM

yes indeed it was live. I think I am a little more fond of the live version cause that is what I am used too. Regardless it still kicks ass and is a great song.
