Song #1

seacaptain - 7-21-2003 at 10:48 PM

Squeeze
Like it, like it's a disease
Keep your pants on
Keep your knowledge burnin'

Something takes
And something holds
And something breaks
The fucking mold!

Kids, now listen
Burning burning burning
Down the back lawns
Hey you, come on kids
Don't let yourself
Feel safe now

Something takes
And something holds
And something breaks
The fucking mold
Never trust
Who wants control
It's time to break
Breakin' out of the doldrums
We're soldiers
We want to break free, break free!
Bust out of the rules
Fuck the rules, yea!
Who's gonna make me, make me!?
Breakin' out of the doldrums
We're soldiers
We want to break free, break free!
Bust out of the rules
Fuck the rules, yea!
Who's gonna make me, make me!
Make me, make me!

Freeze is a disease
Yea come on, sorry, it's 1 2 now
So just fuck 'em up
'Cause you're a brilliant star
Yea, just pump 'em up
You know who you are

Something takes
And something holds
And something breaks
The fucking mold
Never trust
Who wants control
It's time to break break break break free

Breakin' out of the doldrums
We're soldiers
We want to break free, break free!
Bust out of the rules
Fuck the rules yea!
Who's gonna make me, make me!
Breakin' out of the doldrums
We're soldiers
We want to break free, break free!
Bust out of the rules
Fuck the rules yea!
Who's gonna make me, make me!
Make me, make me

I gave up on the second verse

Will try it later if I can

draconian - 7-22-2003 at 09:46 AM

One of the lines is something like:
"Breaking out of the doldrums with ? guns
it's time to break free break free

Breaking out ? of the rules
fuck the rules, yeah!
It's time to break free break free"

bleh, this is a tough one.

seacaptain - 9-16-2003 at 12:14 PM

Went through the album version for some clarity. Still not sure on a few of the words.

could it be assault guns? does that even make any sense?? :(

draconian - 10-3-2003 at 04:33 PM

Every time it sounds like "sold guns" to me.

I think the first part has another "like":
like it, like it's a disease.

Vin, even if these aren't completely perfect, I like your interpretations. It should be "soldiers," I mean, it's such a rallying song...ah well. Alex didn't emerge from the show last night, didn't get the chance to ask. Maybe you'll get the chance in Bosto.

seacaptain - 10-3-2003 at 04:48 PM

Yea "soldiers" is probably not quite right.

Funny thing on this song... the lyrics in the liner notes say "doll drums"... :)

draconian - 10-3-2003 at 04:54 PM

That's nutso. I would love to get a look at the notebook where Alex keeps his lyrics to see how these things are constructed.

seacaptain - 10-3-2003 at 05:52 PM

Also does anyone have a better idea for the "Squeeze..." parts at the beginning of the verses?

will do

batcave_baby - 2-25-2004 at 02:52 PM

I've always thought it was "breaking out of the doldrums, these old guns"

You know what really bothers me? Uh, okay, I'll tell you anyway. Whenever they play this live, I have the urge to do that "fist-pumping" move. And I'm totally NOT a fist-pumping type of person. Fisting, maybe...pumping, definitely. But fist-pumping? What has come over me? I've got to come up with a better move that captures the essence or spirit of fist-pumping, without actually incorporating it.

draconian - 2-26-2004 at 11:39 AM

Uh, maybe chop-socky action flick karate move?

Dynomite2140 - 11-9-2011 at 05:52 PM

Everything seems in order except I think it says

"Breaking outta the doldrums with soul guns" (either that or "these old guns"
" 'Freeze' is a disease. 'Sorry' is one too, now."

Other than that, it's dope.
