This one comes from the
Chico News And Review, and at least admits that you have to have an open mind to appreciate the album:
Ima Robot
By Phil Anker
"Listening to the new Ima Robot album is like going to a party that you’re sure will suck. At first you’ve created a self-fulfilling prophecy:
“Dynamite” is silly, and while “Song #1” cutely replaces the guitars with synths, it’s still a stupid punk song. But then there’s the Pulp-ish chorus
of “Alive,” and you have to check yourself just to make sure you’re not having fun. Pretty soon--somewhere around “Dirty Life”--you’ve stopped playing
with the dog and you’re dancing despite yourself. By the time “What Are We Made From” ushers you out of the house, you’re wondering when you’re going
to see this Roxy Music vs. Pink Floyd cutie again. You have just enough energy to hang out on the lawn through “Black Jettas,” and then it’s time to
head home--happy you came and hoping they’ll invite you back."
