Yet another one of Amanda's long reviews (Franz Ferdinand this time...with pictures!)
Ahh! It was SO great! I went last Friday (the fourth).
First off, we kept seeing the guys walking around, since we got there early. I think they were shopping. We chatted up Nick for a little bit, and then
he had to go inside because they were doing this session/meet and greet with the radio station. We talked to a bunch of people who were around us in
line. Eventually, they opened the doors. There was no barrier, so we were right against the stage, in the center/Nick's side!
The first band was Blood Arm, from Los Angeles. They were fairly good, but the lead singer was kind of annoying. And his pants were way too small, so
you could see his, er...pubes! A couple of times he stood right in front of me and looked right down at me. He did that to a few other people as well,
and he went into the audience.
The second band was Scotland's own, Sons and Daughters! They were really good! I've never heard anything like them before. They had that
traditional, folk influence, but it was rock. Good stuff. It was cool how they all kept switching instruments around. I really enjoyed them a lot
better than Blood Arm.
Finally, the moment we were all waiting for, Franz Ferdinand came out! They had people who were filming the show (they're going to make a dvd
with a bunch of performances combined), but they had to film from the audience. The guy took my friend's spot But eventually, he got pushed away
because the crowd was WILD! They opened with Cheating on You. The crowd took me by complete surprise, because it was really rowdy. People were pushing
a lot, moshing, and just pogoing up and down. At the show in March, people were just dancing, no one was pushing. I had my new camera, so I took
almost two rolls of film during the actual concert. I yelled out "It Won't Be Long!" and Alex looked down at me and smiled. Nick also
looked down a few times. They sounded so great! Really energetic and they looked like they were having a great time. It was weird though, because at
one point, random people came up on stage and were dancing by them. One of them proceeded to crowd surf. They ended with Darts of Pleasure. That
wasn't enough for us. We were hungry for more of the new Scottish Gentry. We had to get them back. We stomped our feet, clapped, screamed,
cheered. Finally, they graced us with their presence again, and went right into Shopping for Blood. Next was Come on Home. Finally, they ended with
This Fire. Alex and Nick ended This Fire on their backs on the floor! It was great Paul threw out his drumsticks to the audience, and Alex through his
pick. Nick also threw his pick to me, but it bounced off my boob onto the floor and some asshole stole it! Stupid bouncy boob!
Here's the setlist: Cheating on You, Tell Her Tonight, 40 Feet, Van Tango, Auf Achse, Dark of the Matinee, Jacqueline, Love and Destroy, Take Me
Out, Michael, Darts of Pleasure. The encore was: Shopping for Blood, Come on Home, and This Fire.
I remembered Steve (their roadie) from the last show, so I called him over and he gave me a setlist! Since I kept getting pushed against the stage the
whole time (and my bladder was being pushed a lot), I might a mad dash to the restroom. Some of my friends got merchandise, but I had no money. They
had really nice shirts. We saw where the tour bus was before the show, so we walked over there to wait for them to come out. Paul and his wife were
walking, so I had him sign my setlist. I wanted to take a picture with him, but they were in a hurry to get to the afterparty because he was supposed
to dj. Next, some of the people from Blood Arm came out. After that, Scott from Sons and Daughters came out. He was really nice, and we took pictures
with him. The drummer (can't remember his name) and Adell (? I think that's her name) came out too, so I also got pictures with them.
Bob came out (looking quite cherubic, might I add) after that. I got him to sign my setlist, and I took pictures with him and talked to him for a
little bit. Alex was the next one to come out. He signed my setlist, and we took a few pictures with him and talked to him. My friend said he looked
like her dad, and Alex said, "I hope you mean when he was younger!" So we all laughed at that. I don't even remember what we talked
about. Oh wait, I remember at one point we were asking about the after party. He was surprised that you have to be 21 to get into bars here. I told
him he should go talk to Bush about that, and he said, "Believe me, if I had the chance to talk to him, I'd have quite a few things to
say." Yay! Alex hates Bush, too! Heh. Anyway, Nick was the last one to come out. He signed my setlist, took pictures, and...he took a picture
with me and a sign that said, "Franzferdinand.org Rules!" (they're having a contest on that website where you have to take a picture
w/a sign mentioning the website)Haha! We were all chatting with him. I don't know where this came from, but I told him that we were going to
kidnap him and keep him in San Francisco! He was just laughing at that. He had a bag of luggage, so he wanted to put it away, but he said he'd
come back out. This other group of people had cloves (you know, those cigarette type things), and Nick (who had a banana now) asked for one
'cause he never had anything like it before. You guys don't have cloves in Scotland? He had Bob try it, too. Bob made a funny face and said,
"it's sweet..." I had a couple of pictures left on my camera, so I asked if I could take a picture with Bob and Nick. Nick still had
the banana and clove in one hand. We took a picture. For the second one, the lady taking it said we should do a funny one. So Bob made a funny face, I
stuck out my tongue, and Nick put the banana up to his mouth to make it look like he was sucking a cock! Hahaha. I can't wait to get these
developed. We had to leave at that point, so we said our goodbyes and went on our way home (stopping at Denny's first to get some food). I
didn't get home till almost 4 am! Overall, it was an amazing experience. Better than the first time we saw them. Anyone else go to this show?

:D i just saw them last night in minneapolis! such a great show. although i feel rather gypped since a) ONLY disposable cameras were allowed so i
couldn't take any pics and b) the guys never came out after the show...to my knowledge at least. maybe i should have hit the alleys again , but they sure weren't in the venue. are we minnesotans that scary?
anyways... there's always next time. and sound-wise, it was one of the best shows i've ever been to, i'm so glad i didnt' miss
this opportunity altogether. these guys continue to wow me.

You're welcome!
And inlimbo: ignore all those camera policies. I've never had mine taken away. If you're a girl, and don't mind wearing a purse, just
wrap it in a big pad and stick it in the bottom of your purse. Works every time!

   :o:o:o...that's a great idea.....
When I was at the 9:30 Club last October to see Hot Hot Heat & Ima Robot....
I always carry a candy bar or cookies in my purse so if I start to feel like I'm in need of a sugar boost I'll have it with me....well,
anyhow....I had a Nutrageous bar in my purse. When I went through the security line to get in, they checked my purse and told me I couldn't take
the candy bar in...I was like "What?...you've gotta be kidding?"....No they weren't.... I wasn't aloud to take in my fucking
candy bar...but they let me in with a bowl and some pot....dumbasses!

I believe that fairy was drawn by some woman who draws...... fairies. I looked through her book, and found one had my name, it was neat.

it's cute..:D

hehe first, my camera is big enough to need its own bag (my camera bag is bigger than my purse, how sad is that?) and second, they had similar signs
up when i saw sondre lerche at the same venue last month. i kinda talked a security guard into allowing me to take pics as long as there was no
flash. but halfway through the set a different security guard made his way up to the front of the pack to question me because he saw me taking
pictures. so i know they honor any artist requests at the Fine Line (most of the time). it's ok, next time i'll aim for a photopass
oh, and wanna hear a horror story? at a show where NO camera policy was stated - i took pics for over three hours straight, only to have my camera
confiscated and have all the pics deleted at the END of the show. that tour manager's on my shitlist
but you know that pad idea is exactly how we sneak our audio recorder into shows - i don't know how HOB hasnt' caught onto that.

I guess it's only good for non-professional cameras. You should try and get chummy with the band's security guards or roadies. For instance,
Steve is the guy for FF. We ask him if we can use cameras w/flash, and then he tells the security guards to let us use them. Same thing for The
Strokes, ask for Danny. I guess it depends on the bands.
That sucks! I'm sorry you lost all those great pictures
Hehe, hope there's no HOB narks on here! :P
