CMJ Album Review: "Revolutionary"

CMJ.com has their review of the album up, it's another good one for the archives!

IMA ROBOT: Ima Robot
With the success of bands like Hot Hot Heat and Radio 4, there seems to be no shortage of post-punk outfits influenced by the likes of the pioneering Gang Of Four. Ima Robot is no exception; the band most definitely gets some of its spark from quirky, jerky punk and random synth manipulations, but the band takes just as much inspiration from the poppier sounds of new wave giants like the Cars. Comprised of studio musicians who have worked with Beck for the last decade, it's far from a surprise that Ima Robot wants to make you dance — and you will dance to this. “What We Are Made Of” would have been considered glam if it came out in the '70s, but since it's a product of the 21st Century, we'll just call it revolutionary. “Black Jettas,” meanwhile, will have ad execs drooling to get it placed in a spot aimed at urban hipsters for… well, black Jettas. Still think punk can't get funky? Time to do the Robot.

I love this song. They've also ensured that this one can be played live. It's so not like their current set that they throw around, but it will get worked in one day; I hope.
