The Syracuse Daily Orange nabbed an advance copy of the album and gives it this review:
quote:
In the rock world, "pop" is a filthy word.
So tell me, why would a man playing bass for Beck and his friend who once held the sticks for R.E.M. ditch their well-paid posts to take up ship with
an unknown Los Angeles pop outfit? I suppose we all did some questionable things back in '98. Five years later ...
Ima Robot are in the middle of the UK's Reading Festival. Next up is Leeds and, when the Robots finish up with England's premier field days,
they're off to Germany. Then, it's home for a U.S. tour with fellow pop-rockers Hot Hot Heat. It's good to be a Robot.
And, once again, it's good to be pop. The Robots join a growing list of hipster superheroes making the world safe for giddy beats and snappy
treats. To the people they bring an armful of unpredictability and plenty of hidden pleasures.
For this movement, The Robots produced an anthem, "Alive," to stir up support amongst the masses. Divinity is a lot to ask of a pop song,
but "Alive" comes close. To prove their roots, "Dirty Life" and "12=3" are throwbacks to The Breeders and B-52's of
yesteryear.
Ima's boys have been around the block - maybe they've hung around so long their music is cool again. Whatever the excuse,
"Dynomite" has exploded onto MTV's Advance Warning and has been nabbed by several alternative radio mainstays from Sacramento to
Boston. It's a revolution!
Pop on!
