Kludge Mag: "It's A Revolution"

Kludgemagazine.com weighs in on the S/T album:

(Oh and if you follow the link above, you will be able to add your own rating to the album)

"In the Rock world, Pop is a filthy word.

So tell me, why, for the love, why would a man playing bass for Beck and his friend who once held the sticks for R.E.M., ditch their well-paid posts to take up ship with an unknown LA pop outfit? I suppose we all did some questionable things back in ‘98. Five years later…

Ima Robot are in the middle of the UK’s Reading and Leeds Festivals. When the Robots finish up with England’s premier field days, they’re off to Germany. Then, it’s home for a US tour with fellow pop-rockers Hot Hot Heat. It’s good to be a Robot.

And, once again, it’s good to be Pop. The Robots join a growing list of hipster superheroes making the world safe for giddy beats and snappy treats. To the people, Ima bring an armful of unpredictability and plenty of hidden pleasures, hooks showing up around unsuspecting corners. The people should be very, very thankful.

For this movement, the Robots give an anthem, “Alive,” to stir up support amongst the masses, “Wake up! Wake up! This is heaven on Earth, oh yea!” Divinity is a lot to ask of a pop song, but “Alive” comes close with strung out guitars and an irresistible chorus. To prove their roots, “Dirty Life” and “12=3” are throwbacks to The Breeders and B52’s of yesteryear. “Dirty” swaggers in on nervous chords before disco exploding into an erotic, “fancy” refrain while our math class dropouts follow two tracks later with herky-jerky melodies among celestial starbursts of harmony. This is not your average pop album.

Ima’s boys have been around the block – maybe they’ve hung around so long their music is cool again. Whatever the excuse, “Dynomite” has exploded onto MTV’s Advance Warning, and been nabbed by several alternative radio mainstays from Sacramento to Boston. It’s official! It’s a revolution!

Pop on!"
