G'Town Hoya Reviews D.C.

Laura Toh of the Georgetown Hoya includes a rave review of Ima Robot in her coverage of their 9:30 Club performance in D.C.:

"Few words can accurately describe opening band Ima Robot: “peculiar” is one of them and “brilliant” is another. Their music is a combination of punk beats, electroclash keyboards, sci-fi sound effects, schizophrenic guitar, incendiary lyrics and falsetto vocals. From the moment that Ima Robot wandered erratically onto the stage, the audience was hooked — or at least curious. With their plain polo shirts — collars unfortunately un-popped— the acoustic guitarist/keyboardist and the drummer look as if they’d blend seamlessly into the Georgetown population. In contrast, the broom-handle-skinny lead singer sported a mullet, tattered capri pants, gold shoes and a white polka-dot Oxford shirt (the collar popped-up … and safety-pinned together). Their performance was intense, the lead singer jittering about like an epileptic and the electric guitarist smoking out of the corner of his mouth, playing frenetically. The half-hour set ended with the lead singer screaming, “Evil!” and “What’s the f—ing smell?” while spinning around with the microphone stand, almost knocking out the entire first row of the audience."
