I'm surprised there isn't a full-on review topic for Spaceland yet..Come on guys!! Ok..So here is what I took away from the show..They came out rocking with tons of new stuff, and I dug all of it..You know how sometimes you need a bit of a transition into new songs with some bands? This is not one of them..They have such a fresh and wonderfully new sound..I just can't get over it..And Alex is such a perfect lead singer..He can shake his hips and legs like an epileptic from the waist down..It's insane!!And, of course, the rest of the boys are just as entertaining to watch and, yes, even to hear!They were almost as entertaining to watch as the chick sitting on the side who's eyes were rolling in the back of her head 80% of the time..Oh my..:o The highlight for me was, of course, Alive..And I really dug Ages of Ruin..All in all, a fantastic, energetic show and I can't wait for the next one!!:D:D

Vortex promised a review replete with obscure musical references, but he hasn't delivered yet.

I'll add to mine--the new version of Dynomite is better than the one in the demos. The only weakness that song ever had was the repetitive lyrics towards the end; they added two new lines (one was something like "You've got me burned at both ends...make me explode" or something like that?) and the change really works to keep the song out of a potential rut.

Also, hearing "Alive" again made me realize that it was that song that sold me on this band the first time I heard them live at the Troubador. One listen and I was hooked. When they played it Friday it kind of felt like the theme song of the band, maybe it will be the equivalent of Sha Na Na's "Goodnight Sweetheart." Just kidding.

I have to admit I was in a whirlwind from all the new songs that I haven't heard (or maybe that was all the Rolling Rock ), but they were all cool, and performed with expert precision. What I dig about the Bot is I always leave having had a genuine good time with cool peeps with a sense of humor. Some of the stuff these guys say in, and between their songs almost have me on the floor.
They represent a cool frame of mind in LA right now. I was just talking to my neighbor the other night who is a young musician also, and we were talking about music producers, soundtracks, movies, comedy, and got on the subject of Dogma, and Kevin Smith, and he goes right into saying, "Man, I think Jason Lee is funny as hell, and I go, "Dude! I just saw him at a Bot show the other night!". Coincedence? I think not. The Bot is an integral part of the Universe.:cool2:


p.s. Drac I've been laughing all week at your theory of how one plays Galaga is a direct representation of how their life is lead. Truly a Freudian breakthrough in psychology that should be investigated. I say you get Random House on the phone Stat!

Here's a controversial opinion--anyone else think that the last four bars in Doctors could stand to be repeated one more time at the end of the song? Like seemingly all the band's songs, it ends too soon!

I'm also thinking that the old stuff they did play must be frontrunning to make the album. That would mean heavy odds in favor of:

Alive
Dynomite
Gobbler
Twist & Shout
