Greatest Songs Ever Recorded!!!!

.....and 12=3 isnt in it! DISGRACEFUL!!!

From X-FM.COM

‘Greatest Song Ever Recorded’ Named

You can tell it’s getting near Christmas as the number of ‘Top 100 Best…’ lists starts increasing. The latest is Q magazine’s poll to find the 100 best songs ever recorded. And the winner is something of a surprise…

Q's writers and various musicians voted for the list, intended to uncover the ‘Greatest Song Ever Recorded’, and surprisingly U2's ‘One’ topped the chart.

Aretha Franklin's version of the Burt Bacharach and Hal David track ‘Say A Little Prayer’ came in at number two, and Nirvana's ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ came in third.

Not surprisingly The Beatles did rather well, notching up eight entries, including ‘A Day In The Life’ at number four, but Radiohead claim the most entries with nine, ‘Creep’ being the highest at number seven.

‘One’ taken from U2’s ‘Achtung Baby’ album only reached number seven in the charts when it was released in 1990, though the band’s guitarist Edge claimed the band thought it was destined for greatness, saying "When we named it, I always knew it would be number one at something."

Paul Trynka Editor-in-chief of Q explained he believed the song won as "It's a classic that still feels fresh."

"It's a great tune but despite being over ten years old we haven't had time to get bored of it," he said, “It's inspirational, it makes people feel good, but it also feels profound - all the more so when you hear Johnny Cash's recent cover version."

The Q Top Ten is:

U2 ‘One’
Aretha Franklin ‘I Say A Little Prayer’
Nirvana ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’
The Beatles ‘A Day In The Life’
Elvis Presley ‘In The Ghetto’
Eminem ‘My Name Is’
Radiohead ‘Creep’
Destiny's Child 'Independent Women’
Oasis ‘Live Forever’
Ike & Tina Turner ‘River Deep Mountain High’

ok, I agree with Radiohead, Beatles, Nirvana... but the songs they picked :p
I think it should of been a Beatles song on top.
thanks for posting.

If I had to pick one it would be "Polyethylene (pts. 1 & 2)" by Radiohead

- Autumn -
{ Polyethylene Pt.2 }
Mad as a Hatter
(the end)

Man, I've been listening to Portishead's "Glory Box" all night... that definitely needs to be on this list if it's not.

It's one of those nights where you find the perfect song for what you're feeling. *sigh*

Portishead's video for "Only You" was directed by Chris Cunningham (I watched it last night while enjoying my *free* DVD set) -- their self-titled album is probably my fave. Would get a kick out of them releasing a Kylie Minogue-style bubblegum club album though just for the hell of it.

...hrmm, well I just got my SPIN, "The year in music 2003" and of course there are lists
here full of shists and whatnot-hooha funny funny (something about Creed sucking in public)
...some of them aren't too arguable (crest whitestrips - elephant #1 LP)... and you know, there comes a point where you take these lists with a grain of salt, as tabloid condiments or conversation matchbooks...
they included albums that haven't even hit the streets before publication (Black album-Jay Z, Missy Elliott...) and you just grin, guffaw or dig in to the rediculousness of it all.
Most of these lists though, considering the source, come from bands impact/reception/sales/oral favor-ability and photogenicity...just another fact of *cough* life.
Seeing as how some consider the Yeah Yeah Yeahs to still be *under the radar, it comes as no suprise that a super album (to us at the very least) like IMA ROBOT s/t will merely be a suprise on some kind of Rag's list where the contributors don't give an Eff about those requisites and put in what they've got the skinny on and think is the effing 'magikist'$

$ Wesley Willis term for ...I'm not sure, I think it means, effing great

Yeah, what's up with the Missy Elliott stuff. What the hell is she saying in her songs? How can you classify that as music? She's quite irritating.

I'm sorry I had to vent a little...Happy Thanksgiving Day Everyone!!!!

Good one Drac! Be-yoncee' is a very healthy girl.

And I agree with Goulet- most of todays music sucks! How can you compare any of the new crap to the classics? And please, Brittney Spears has to lip sync on SNL! I wish the DAT tape/CD would skip during one of her shows like it did for Milli Vanilli!
