The Servant
This band from England are very similar to ImaRobot (i think ).. Have a look at the video and tell me what you think..

They're kind of "Save A Prayer" era Duran Duran. Similar sound. I think Ima Robot pushes things a lot further musically, though.
Then again, you will hear me say this about just about any band Ima Robot is compared to--you have to get pretty art punk to be more compositionally
adventurous than the 'Bot, in my opinion!

Believe me they're nothing like Duran Duran (please they were never good back then and now sixty years latetr i'm sure they're)..
It's hard to tell from one song on a video i know but i've seen the Servant nearly 40 times live and although i've only seen ImaRobot 3
times (it'll be a lot more when they tour around here again).. LIVE they are very similar. When we went to ImaRobot at the Barfly the first thing
quite a few of my friends said was ... "They remind me of the Servant".. So like i said i know it's hard listening to one song on a vid
but.......

Wahhhh, I love Duran Duran! No irony, even. Straight up love them.
I'll look for more of The Servant. From that song, I could hear the Ima Robot sound in the chorus more than the individual verses.

I'm with you Drac, I love Duran Duran. How could you not like John Taylor! I remember in 82' ( I was 12 )when I first got MTV (when it was
cool and no commercials) and they played "Planet Earth"! I loved that video-they all wore cool clothes and had crazy hair! Then "Hungry
like the Wolf" came out and I thought they were such a fun and cute little band. I use to love watching Dale Bozzio in Missing Persons singing
"Words"! The plastic bowls on her boobs were great!:D |

Not sure, but you may be talking about Nick Rhodes there Draccy...

We lived in suburban/rural area east of LA, and at 15 decided to go do Hollywood ala Nicolas Cage/Valleygirl style, and ended up near the palace one
night when Missing Persons was playing, and Dale Bozzio was exiting the side doors in a memorable fur (hopefully fake), and we got to stand in her
presence for a brief moment. She was so tiny, and I was just a teenager. Now something like 18 years later I find out that my office managers
brother has played drums for Missing Persons recently (I need to find out if he was the original drummer, or just fill-in now).
as for The Servant, I really didn't hear Botness, or Duraness, but I did hear a Pet Shop Boy voice with Brief moments of
Radiohead, and Oasis. I enjoyed the song concept of an orchestra in the head even if it is in the "key of hell" . A lot of musicians experience that, and have different variations on what's in
their heads. Lyrics were simple, but the lead singer has charisma that pulls it off. By the way, I hate comparing bands to others, but when needed
it's real easy.

Right, I meant Nick Rhodes. When I was typing that up last night, it actually gave me pause to write Andy Taylor.

Man, those were the days though. Think I'm gonna dust off the old cassettes. Tel Aviv was always a fav, and Tiger Tiger 2 of the very few instrumentals they had, if not only.

Neuwave, that is so cool you did the "Valley Girl" thing. I would have loved to have met Dale Bozzio (wasn't she a former playmate?). I
know it's cheesey but I love that movie. I had such a crush on Nick Cage in that movie-I also loved the Plimsouls!!!!Those songs were so heart
felt at the time. The club they're in when they played reminds me of this club called The Depot here in Baltimore.
Oh, now I'm getting excited talking about the 80's again. I'm going to have to dig out my old videos! I almost get a high watching
them!!!
Wow, is Missing Persons still doing appearances? The original drummer was Dale Bozzio's (former?) husband Terry Bozzio (great Drummer). Man, I
miss those days-atleast there is VH1 classics on satellite TV.:D

You know what I just saw a commercial on VH1 about Berlin on some new show in January, and it dawned on me that it was Berlin, not Missing Persons
that he drummed for.

Yah, I think they are suppose to have a show on VH1 where they reunite some of the old 80's bands to play a show together. Berlin is one of
them-she's got a killer voice and great hair!
Sometimes on VH1 Classics they show old videos of Madness, early Depeche Mode, Bauhaus, Love & Rockets, The Damned, Lords of the New Church, and
such. I taped a bunch of old videos-when I'm sad I watch them and they cheer me up. Puts butterflies in my stomach!:P

I've stumbled upon some of those videos too on VH1. So hard to believe those days are so long ago, yet we were there. Getting old is weird. I
often trip out, because right now I'm living next door to Mark Mothersbaugh of Devo, and it is very surreal to be taking the trash out, and look
up to see him waving at me when I used to see him on MTV when I was 13, and wait by the radio to record his songs on old cassette tapes.

Wow, that's so cool. I can't imagine seeing that guy in DEVO living next door to me. I would have to laugh and break out into song
"Freedom of choice...is what you got". I was an MTV junkie too. That era brings back such fond memories.
Yeah, getting old sucks. But actually I think I'm happier now than I've ever been. I think getting older brings a sense of stability and
tranquility. My nephew is 21 and I wouldn't want to be his age in this era.
I wish they'd do another 80's big band tour this summer!
