Every Move A Picture - Heart = Weapon
San Franciso 4-piece Every Move A Picture, a veritable whirlwind of infectious melodies and political invective, release their debut album Heart =
Weapon on June 5th on V2 Records.
Every Move A Picture recruited the perfect producer for the album: Eli Janney (former member of Girls Against Boys, and engineer for post-punk
pioneers Brainiac, and many classic Dischord Records bands, from Nation of Ulysses and Soulside, to Shudder to Think) - to capture the essence of
their 100mph live show and harness their contagious pop hooks. The result is a sharp punchy rocket ride through all 10 tracks, which are:
Mission Bell / Signs Of Life / The Best Is On The Outside / Chemical Burns / Outlaw / Dust / Simple Lessons In Love And Secession / On The Edge Of
Something Beautiful / Dixie / St Johns Night
The dance-punkers, who have been described as having a combination of “intergalactic synths, sharp guitars and bass-heavy grooves” released a single
prior to the album on May 22nd, the guaranteed dance-floor filler Signs Of Life which is released on CD and 7”.
The CD features the title track plus “Home” and the Camouflage Nights remix of “Signs Of Life”. The 7” has the “Timmy The Terror Speaker Buster Mix”
of Signs Of Life on the flipside – Timmy the Terror being the nom-de-plume of Timmy Anderson from LA new wavers Ima Robot - with the original version
on the A-side.
Formed three years ago, when the once-opposed forces of disco and punk became bed buddies, the quartet quickly surfaced as a west coast counterpart to
the synth-heavy rock of the Faint and San Francisco refugees the Rapture. Pricking up ears with their first UK tour in May 2005, a riotous run of
dates that included shows with Radio 4, The Rakes and Ladytron, the band were then asked to play that year’s Reading Festival where they left the
stage littered with sweat and broken microphone stands.
Their growing group of fans began to expand as people began to sit up and take notice, sensing something special was afoot. And why? Because like Bloc
Party and a few other transcendent acts of the past few years, Every Move a Picture actually have something to say––both musically and lyrically. For
one thing, they’re quite possibly the only four-to-the-floor rock band with allusions to the wildly expressive, colour wheel chords of early U2.
Every Move A Picture will be returning to the UK for more dates to be announced.
