Rembrandt Pussyhorse

...come any given 4 am on a monday, you'd think you'd have logs to saw or dreams of saving the corrupt ways of the monster that is america one message in a recycled bottle at a time, but noooooooo...I have a hankerin' for a hunk of the most ill celebrated musical catalogue this side of the atlantic...the year was 1982 (>?<;) and some very 'touched' texans decided to call themselves the butthole surfers and create a music that was both intentially retarded and enlightened simultaneously...taking cues from the greatest hits of the 60's and 70s yet set in an era chiming in with the Dead Kennedy's, Reaganism and all things psychodelic, this band recorded albums that I to this day, marvel over their conception.
The first album recorded, yet third to be released (how's that for insanity programming) was called Rembrandt Pussyhorse and featured music that was neither disco or 3 chord punk...by the time 1984 arrived...they were the most anticipated live show to come to town and what was delivered was apparently somewhere between Fellini via guitar and an NC-17 onslaught of spontaneous surreality...
I've never heard a 'cover of a classic rock song done so rediculously compelling, american woman, and haven't heard a band who makes me appreciate the possibilites of ??? as much as this band does.

It will change your life...I don't think it cares about
traffic...the prices at this point are cheap...but get it cause it may affect everything you ever or never want to listen to ever again. Amen.

"...it's about coming of age...it's about learning how to do it...it's about learnin' how to experience things the way they ought to be experienced...it's about growing up...it's about licking' the shit off the floors...it's about doing the things that you ought to do ...it's about being a butthole surfer...it's about doing promotional work...it's about...it's about pr...it's about all these things...it's about loving yourself...
it's about loving your mom...it's about loving your dad...it's about doing the things...it's about going to the go-kart track...it's about loving everything...your pop, your kitty...all the things...the catfood, the little bits of crayons...
the melted pieces...the loving friends...
all the things you wish you had."

I remember my friend telling me about an early Butthole Surfers show where they played in front of a video screen, on which they projected clips of surgeries intertwined with clips of Charlie's Angels.

I haven't gotten in to everything they've done, but my first exposure to the Surfers was Independant Worm Saloon which I really dig. It's very creative and fun. Produced by Led Zep's John Paul Jones too!
