Spoke with Justin Meldal-Johnson (sounds so formal);
actually it was email, and he's excited about a fan site for the band.
So I'll be working on getting more information from JMJ and from the
management to keep everyone up on what's
happening with the band.
So what did JMJ have to say?
Updated me on the band members. It turns out that my sketchy inside
industry sources appear to be actually pretty reliable.
Their drummer Rich did get "let go". Currently no replacement, but they
are one the hunt. Anyone play drums?
Here's the band makeup currently:
Oliver Goldstein: Keyboards, Guitar
Justin Meldal-Johnsen: Bass, Vocals
Alex Ebert: Vocals
Tim Anderson: Guitar, Vocals
JMJ met the band through a friend of his back in October
of 2001. He was helping them on bass for their demos and as JMJ said it
"They loved me. I loved them. I jumped in with both feet.
Cancelled several tours just to keep the band on the rails, got signed to
Virgin. Now, we're writing for the record. It's a pretty great scene,
there's a lot of love."
So what can we expect from IMA Robot when the debut comes
out. Look for them to take pop song sense, punk explosiveness, and
art-rock aesthetics to a new level.
