In exactly 89 words: Alexander is the performance and real name of Alex Ebert, who’s been banging around the indie world for close to
a decade now. After leading the dance punks and difficult haircuts in Ima Robot in the early part of the ’00s, Ebert stormed back last year with the
boho dropout-folk group Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, whose hit single “Home” was a great bit of melodic magic. “Alexander” feels and sounds
like ES&MZ if the commune packed up the tents and left him a “Dear Alex…” letter.
Could fit on a bill with: post-“Sea Change” Beck, Josh Ritter, Calexico
One more thing: While Ebert’s solo profile is considerably lower right now than it was last year - when he was constantly being
referred to as “Edward Sharpe” - remixes by Wu-Tang Clan leader RZA and placements in film and TV (“Truth” made it into the season premiere of
“Breaking Bad”) should bring him a sizable crowd by the time ACL Fest rolls around next month.
