Logomag Reviews Song #1 - 4 Stars

Reviewer Suzie Q at www.logo-magazine.com gets it. Here's her 4-star evaluation of the Song #1 single:

****
IMA Robot
"Song 1"
(Virgin)
Released: 20 October 2003

"Yes, ‘Song 1’ does bring to mind THAT Blur song, and, to take it to it’s logical conclusion, where ‘Song 2’ riffed on Graham Coxon’s love for wired, lo-fi eighties punk, ‘Song 1’ goes back further, to a time when spazz-dancing was what we did and drainpipe trousers and outsized shoes were what we wore. Think 1979; think a bespectacled Declan McManus throwing skinny shapes, think four fashionable nerds called Devo filling the stage with televisions, think Pete Shelley and Howard Devoto writing love songs for underdogs while trying to out-helium each other; think IMA Robot. Frontman Alex Ebert still can’t figure out why bassist Justin Meldal-Johnson and drummer Joey Waronker ditched their gig with Beck to join him in IMA Robot; here’s a clue, the music is honest, in your face and fucking fantastic."
