"Thanks Joey. It's been real."

Thanks to the joy of my photographic memory...I guess it would be an audiographic memory?...here is the set list from tonight's show at The Roxy. But, before that, a quick run down...

So the symbols come crashing down in Here Come The Bombs and there appears to be some mayhem on stage. Joey hiding behind a speaker and then Joey slumped over the drums...what's gives?

Enter Scott.

Joey's replacement. You read that correctly...frick'in crazy.

The guys put on a pretty good roost pretending that Scott was just some average Joe in the crowd that could play drums, but it was all a set-up. Scott finished up, playing with the band, after Here Come The Bombs with an an intense energy packed Instrumental Jam that lasted about 1 minute. After that, What Are We Made From (the first time I know of this track being played live) and an extra encore of Sex Symbols On Parade.

End show with Justin speaking into the mic saying "Thanks Joey. It's been real."

Scott, who I must say can play with some pretty nice vigor and intensity, will make a fine addition. Of course he's not Joey Waronker, but I don't think that anyone will be let down as it's clearly evident that he (Scott) can bring the energy and intensity that compliments JMJ's bass playing excellence so well.

What else can I say, totally bummed to hear that Joey has decided to pursue other challenges (I'm so selfish), but he did say that he would play some guest spots. Let's hold him to it.

Scott will be the drummer during the Junior Senior tour. You won’t be disappointed, so don’t change any plans and welcome him with open arms. He really does kick some ass on the drums. The next Matt Sorum? Neil Pert? Go check it out and let me know.

The show was excellent, from Alex chomping on a maxi pad to JMJ confiscating some poor girls black Jetta key; yes the keys were a-waving. So many people were into the songs and there was definitely an energy increase brought to the place from all the new fans. So many people into all the songs now. Very cool. The evolution of a rock star witnessed. Almost a 60 minute set.

01) Song#1
02) Dirty Life
03) A is For Action
04) Alive (kicked out)
05) Let's Talk Turkey
06) STD Dance
07) Dynomite
08) Philosophofee
09) Black Jettas
10) Sexy
11) Scream
12) 12=3
13) Here Come The Bombs
14) [Instrumental Jam]
15) What Are We Made From
16) Sex Symbols On Parade

If you have any pictures from the show shoot me a email ( phobiac@imarobot.net ) with them attached and I will add them to the photo gallery.

.Com just put this up:
"Joey Waronker, drummer for Ima Robot, has left the group.

After much deliberation and soul-searching, Joey decided that his four cats at home were desperately needing more time with him to snuggle.

Taking Joey's position is Scott Devours, a handsome fella and fine drummer from Long Beach, CA. Scott has promised not to have the same issue with his seven cats that Joey had."

Scott Devours

Was it Scott Devours, formerly of the band Oleander?
Pic Here

edit: and if it is him, Popmatters had some nice words about his skills as a drummer in this bit about Oleander's album, Joyride:
"Joyride is a blistering display of thick riffs and intensity with less bittersweet melody and more straight up rock. Sounding like a latter day Stone Temple Pilots at times, it's not just the soaring vocals of Thomas Flowers that carry Oleander, or even the non-stop grinding of guitarist Ric Ivanisevich; it's the rhythm section that has stepped it up into monster mode. On his second album with the band, drummer Scott Devours is unbelievably solid -- settled in firmly with bassist Doug Eldridge when not threatening to steal the entire show."

Ahh damn, that sucks. JMJ and Joey definitely have a chemistry that will be missed. I'm glad I got to see a Joey-era concert now! :)

Hey all- just wanted to say that I have seen Scott Devours play a few times with Oleander and this guy is great. He has to be if IMA Robot chose him to play drums for their band, right? I am glad this transition is going smoothly, no drama- perhaps Joey didnt feel like touring and has alot of exciting projects to participate in at home in LA...

Anyway, I'll vouch that Scott is a worthy addition to the band- I cant wait to see them live! later-

I agree with the cap and 6. Very glad I got to see Joey play live with the band.

One has to wonder what the inside story is. He was invited (persuaded?) into the band, stayed through the recording of the album, began touring.

Just hmmmm - that's all.

Rockin' at the Roxy!!

Wow what a dynamic show! The band all said they thought so too. Alex said he though this was the best audience so far!! A lot of good sexual energy from Alex and we in the crowd all ate it up. Don't forget the bra that ended up onstage too. I didn't quite get the whole pantyliner thing-- maybe the girl that threw it wanted it back after Alex sopped up all his sweat in it or something, I dunno. We were all dripping with sweat after the show, and that's how I like it-- danced the whole time. Fun, fun, fun. It cracked me up that Scott seemed like random clean cut guy in a short sleeve button down and even went so far as to shake hands with the band before busting out on the next song. Good Times. :saint:

Oh my God. I am heartbroken and crushed that Joey is leaving. It must have been some foreboding omen that I wore my bot shirt today. This day just can't get much worse. I am so lucky that I got to actually see him play with Ima Robot and meet him. Joey's my hero. He's been touring for so long, so I don't blame him for wanting to be at home more with his wife and cats. I am sure that it takes its toll. I can't help but think that the drama at the Roxy show was some sort of homage to the Who concert when Keith Moon passed out and an audience member had to take over. I am sure it was a tough decision for Joey and I know the band and his fans will miss him a lot. JMJ and Joey were just so great together. I have to check out .com and cry. Thanks for the music, Joey!

I wouldn't be surprised though if Joey remained the Bot's studio drummer, much in the way Beck uses him (and JMJ, now). Joey hasn't actually toured with Beck since like 1997, but he still plays on most the records. But I guess we'll have to wait and see. It is a little Spinal Tap-py though, isn't it?

Spinal Tap-py in the sense that they have been through so many drummers already. Maybe that is what Joey meant when he said he'd be back for some "special" appearances--studio work?

The one thing that the band will lose is his creativity as a writer and producer. Though if Scott is coming from a metalhead background, I can think of no other influence more different from the rest of the band to push their music forward.

Sexy is a B-side on the French/German "Dynomite" single--check out the Releases and Recordings section for buying info. A really laid-back, medium-tempo song in the vein of "Scream." They've played it live at least three times in the U.S.
