New Hives

draconian - 7-22-2004 at 05:33 AM

Just picked this up yesterday. If you thought Ima Robot's album was short, welcome to The Hives' 30-minute CD. I like most of the songs so far, though none have quite the power of some of the Veni Vidi Vicious stormers.

It's way more cleanly-produced, however. Which is interesting for them. And I swear I hear synth in some of the songs. Will have to live with this album a while and see what happens. Anyone seeing them on this tour?

poobs - 7-22-2004 at 08:04 AM

I wanted to, but cash is so short thanks to this damn wedding I'm in that I had to pass..:( I think I'll download a few songs to see if it's worth buying..

draconian - 7-22-2004 at 08:10 AM

Then make sure you get B Is For Brutus and See Through Head -- my two faves thus far!

TurtleEnterprises - 7-22-2004 at 08:12 AM

im picking it up today during lunch

MichelleRene - 7-22-2004 at 08:57 AM

I have 2 other Hives CD's and love them, but when I saw the new video for the "idiot..." song I wasn't to impressed. It lacks a little and they're such a cool band. Their other stuff was a bit more punky. Let us know what you think of their new CD Turtle.....

draconian - 7-22-2004 at 12:06 PM

Abra Cadaver could also have been a better first single.

Noisemonster - 7-22-2004 at 12:22 PM

already seen them on a festival three weeks ago! it was too cool, they did a great show. what a fucking poser the singer is! also liked the new songs they played.

but so far i forgot to check out their new album

poobs - 7-22-2004 at 01:34 PM

They put on such a great show..

avw86 - 7-22-2004 at 05:44 PM

I've never seen them live before, but I'm gonna see them August 1st in San Fran! :D

To those of you who've seen them live before: is the crowd really rough (moreso than other bands)? Or is it pretty much like any other show? I've been to enough concerts to handle the pushing and swaying as long as I'm against the barrier. It does get pretty rough, but I have no idea if The Hives audience will be even rougher than I'm used to.

draconian - 7-22-2004 at 06:45 PM

A bit rough, but The Hives play at such a breakneck pace, no one can jump up and down in rhythm for more than a few beats before the whole thing goes to shit. Everyone's actually quite mild-mannered, and Pelle runs the show.

nurzetrev - 7-22-2004 at 10:50 PM

any song with sleigh bells in it is cool with me...

happysmilely - 7-23-2004 at 10:30 AM

I have to see them in august, the 4th
I also have never seen them live before.
should be fun I think

draconian - 7-23-2004 at 03:17 PM

One of the tracks, I think the second, is straight off of a Devo song--Jerkin' Back And Forth. Someone agree with me!

happysmilely - 7-24-2004 at 02:24 AM

I agree.... ok so no i don't. hahaha I have yet to hear it, but soon, soon Drac, and i likes me Devo, hahaha

Noisemonster - 7-27-2004 at 08:56 AM

after the second listen, i have to say it's another jump-around-in-your-room-record, and of course there are synths! and i think walk idiot walk is a very good song! i also like broken bones and love in plaster and antidote.
will this tyrannosaurus stand the long-term test, too? we'll see. for now it's hot!

haha.. somehow thought of 'temple of love' when i heard 'love in plaster'

TurtleEnterprises - 7-27-2004 at 09:14 AM

I love this entire cd, i agree its freaking short !
I listened to this cd while showering, either i take long showers or this cds like super short... ps i got the dynomite single last nite at tower records first time ever hearing 10:10. oh yea its the enhanced version so it has the dynomite video. :D

draconian - 7-27-2004 at 04:55 PM

I just read the new Spin, which has a cover story on the Hives, and wouldn't you know it, they lifted some Devo not for song 2 but for song 3 (I still maintain there are similarities between Broken Bones and Jerkin' Back and Forth) -- they claim a riff straight offa Freedom of Choice. Must play repeatedly.

p.s. I am loving this CD more and more

happysmilely - 7-27-2004 at 05:30 PM

hahaha, really Drac, funny snuff....
Devo is goodness, can't wait!
see payday is the 30th... so no CD tell after that.
MUST get it soon, concert on the 4th!!!
I have to know the CD before I go.
I can learn it all well in 3 days if i try, hahahaha! ...

They rock...of course

bananaboat - 7-28-2004 at 09:54 AM

Just listened to their CD yesterday, and I'd say that this CD is better than the previous one. See Through Head is so hilarious. It is worth the buy.

TurtleEnterprises - 7-28-2004 at 10:12 AM

nurzetrev - 7-28-2004 at 10:42 PM

I don't know about their album, but I got a boatload of their black and white stickers and you can make lots of cool words out of them to make NEW stickers! like 'TESH', 'ElVlS' and "IV" which is the 'name' of one of my new bandsss so were like...'SET' ,,,;'HEH HEH'

bananaboat - 7-29-2004 at 10:56 AM

aw gee thanks. i hope it does work

bananaboat - 7-29-2004 at 11:01 AM

lomax - 7-30-2004 at 08:35 AM

Love the new The Hives record. I have 'Your New Favourite Band' but they are one of the only bands that i really like that i havent seen live! The new album is brilliant. The Songs are so short and brillaint. Who ever said 'jump around your room record' is spot on. Its completely that! i can just imagine all us on .net trying to type and keep up with the Hives on the stereo, or maybe thats just me!

happysmilely - 7-30-2004 at 02:57 PM

Im seeing them soon, hope the show is good even if Dyler hated it...
I'm going to a concert every week (or more) this whole summer! It rocks. Thank Chili I have a job to pay for them now. haha

avw86 - 7-31-2004 at 11:46 AM

I'm seeing them tomorrow night! Woo hoo!

And I'm sure I'll have (yet another) long report of the show :P

happysmilely - 7-31-2004 at 04:06 PM

It's just because Dyler doesn't like bands that are actually talented (excluding Ima, of course)..:P:lol::lol:

They're hilarious, Happy..They put on a great show..You're going to have fun!! :D

DylerPlummer - 7-31-2004 at 10:39 PM

:o :lol::lol::lol::lol:

happysmilely - 8-1-2004 at 08:51 AM

 will do Poobs. But I went to a concert last night. Fever/Moving units...
and got very and banged up.
haha, they had what I like to call the shin stage. Where the stage is so low and right up on you, you hit your shins into the top of it ever time you get shoved. haha. I came out ok however. should be fine by the time I see the Hives...
but the show was good. One time I landed on stage and was left sitting in some guys lap.
That a hiting into the drummset sucked. but it was a good show.
anyway, past all my pain, off I go to see the Hives on Wed. I know it will be a super show (because dyler hates them, jk)
anyway, am I ranting again... yup ok ok I'll stop :D

prettyvacant - 8-5-2004 at 01:19 AM

Dyler doesn't like any bands it seems!!:D:D:P:P
I hated the hives but i bought walk idiot walk when it came out and its awesomely cool!! i will probably see them at reading.

happysmilely - 8-5-2004 at 10:18 AM

I saw them yesterday
They on a good show.
I think you should check them out even if you don' like them a lot. The only thing is i was front and almost center, so I didn't get to move as much as I like do to being crushed, but It was super.
The interaction with the crowd is great, and they are super funny guys...
but now I have hurts on my hurts... a concert ever two days again and again, phew... but i made it... next one is IMA at sunset (nice "long" wait tell then)
:D then the pixies !
my summer weekly or more concert goings are comming to an end. now it's back to every 2 weeks , haha

avw86 - 8-5-2004 at 10:21 AM

You guys...The Hives' show in SF was AMAZING! Oh my God...they really are one of the greatest live bands! I was in the second row. The crowd was SO crazy! I was really, really sore after that show. I met them afterwards! I'll post pictures after I get them developed. Word of advice: if you have long hair, DO NOT wear it down!!! Oh man, I had like *chunks* of hair come out from the wild crowd! Good thing I have long, thick hair...otherwise I'd probably have a bald spot!

Happy...I'm jealous that you saw The Fever and Moving Units! I love both bands. Aren't they awesome? :D

happysmilely - 8-5-2004 at 10:30 AM

Yes they are! I LOVED THE FEVER/MOVING UNITS, I was so happy to get to see them, and they were SO GOOD. They were so cool to me 2. Great guys.

Yeah the hives put on a great show! As I said I'm sore as heck... I have black spots dotting my whole body, I look like a leopard but it was so worth it.
I got kicked in the face once, but hey that's life. Lets just say I show the raft of seeing the fever/moving units and the Hives two days latter, ALL OVER. haha. It looks so bad, but ok, it was SO VERY VERY WORTH IT!!!!!

prettyvacant - 8-5-2004 at 11:36 AM

I'm going to see the Pixies too Happy!! SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

happysmilely - 8-5-2004 at 12:03 PM

ME 2 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't wait!
this is so a MUST SEE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D haha

lomax - 8-7-2004 at 01:00 AM

SEE THROUGH HEAD!

is my fave song at the mo!

HenryFonda

Phobiac - 8-7-2004 at 05:23 PM

Saw them last week at the Henry Fonda in Los Angeles. On the rooftop bar and Dr. Matt Destruction was drinking with someone rock n' roll, but I could place who the other rock'n roll'er was.

I went over to say that the new album is awesome and while speaking with Dr. Matt Destruction my Blackberry went off and he was curious. They funny thing was the email was from JMJ asking me some questions. Dr. Matt Destruction was interested in what the Blackberry was. I told him it was just my phone and email and while he was checking it out, sure enough, he noticed the email from JMJ.

We partied like we were in Sweden with Teh Hives and the in from the JMJ email. Thanks JMJ! Dr. Matt Destruction only had good things to say about JMJ; by the way.
