Franz Ferdinand

bananaboat - 10-20-2004 at 09:56 AM

I don't know if we have a thread on them, because I can't find it. But anyways, my little bro bought their CD. Yea, ooo, but he's those types of kids that listens to Rap, RnB and Hip Hop and he barely buys CDs. He only bought 3 Rap CDs in the last three years. And out of the blue he buys a Franz Ferdinand. That made me so happy, because he doesn't have to steal my CDs those odd times he get's sick of Rap.
Anyways, I think they're great, I love that song, "Darts of Pleasure." I hear some people don't like them because they sound like Modest Mouse. They are nothing like Modest Mouse, maybe just a SMALL bit of "Take Me Out" sounds like them but it's just that one song.
So what do you guys think of them?

Modest mouse > Franz Ferdinand

draconian - 10-20-2004 at 01:06 PM

I was really impressed by their live show. Partly because they were so charismatic, but also because the audience was perhaps the most rhythmically gifted I had ever been a part of--everyone was able to clap this complicated syncopated beat in perfect time. Good dancers, too.

EvilMotivator - 10-20-2004 at 01:10 PM

I've only heard Take Me Out, but I like it. I'd like to hear their whole cd.

The audience or the band?

TurtleEnterprises - 10-20-2004 at 02:09 PM

I don't think they sound anything like Modest Mouse.
Michael is my favorite song on that cd.
I would love to see them live.
I love ModestMouse as well.

happysmilely - 10-20-2004 at 02:27 PM

I really like this band
good cd, grew on me fast.
Michael is so my favorite
but I play it a bit much
one of my favorite new cd's
funny boys!
kinda remind me of Queen for some reason, not the music, just them.

happysmilely - 10-20-2004 at 02:28 PM

Modest Mouse is ok, but some songs I love, others not so much.
modest mouse = frans.... no
but they did pop out of the same musical area

Evangeline - 10-20-2004 at 02:46 PM

Not really, Modest Mouse is very much Indie, wheras Franz is more dance/funk. I love them both though.

happysmilely - 10-20-2004 at 08:16 PM

No see, what I mean is more of a time frame.
Related together despite different musical sounds.
They relate in a way where they coincide, even if they are very different

7cut - 10-22-2004 at 12:37 AM

i like the intro of "tell her tonite" so egyptian-sounding. and "take me out" is like a "bohemian rhapsody" - 3 songs in one.

Evangeline - 10-22-2004 at 11:47 AM

Actually Happy, Modest Mouse have been around for quite a bit longer than Franz Ferdinand, Modest Mouse just hasn't gottan popular until now.

poobs - 10-22-2004 at 01:18 PM

Yeah..I'm shocked at how long Modest Mouse has been around..My friend at work is a die-hard Mouse fan so she was giving me the history..Dont' they have a shitload of albums, too?

minimandy14 - 10-22-2004 at 06:21 PM

modest mouse has like five cds
FRANZ FERDINAND KICKS ASS (like i said on another thread)
favorite sone "dark of the matinee"
modest mouse NOT = franz ferdinand

don't get all sassy with me. I know that. I listened to them back then.
MM and FF coincide in a teeny boppers mind.
MM popularity is only recent hit in the same popularity boat stream as FF.
Ok, I'm done. This is moving along like the energizer bunny.

TurtleEnterprises - 10-24-2004 at 10:17 AM

EvilMotivator - 10-24-2004 at 12:14 PM

happysmilely - 10-24-2004 at 08:15 PM

I'm confused but it could be creamy crack distracting me.
Vacant, is my mind Radiohead burned or did you make a Radiohead reference just then? I'm sure not but just checking
extra credit for you if you did.

7cut - 10-25-2004 at 12:47 AM

a positive aspect on Franz Ferdinand is that the aren´t called "the" Franz Ferdinand and a negative thing is that they´re all wearing suits ....i´m not into suit bands.

MichelleRene - 10-25-2004 at 05:16 AM

I love suit bands.... the music that those type of bands play is quite catchy. Not to mention the guys look hot in their suits....oh and when they add a little eyeliner.;)

poobs - 10-25-2004 at 05:39 AM

I like the suits as well..It gives a whole stage presence that isn't there with jeans and tees..:)

bananaboat - 10-25-2004 at 07:44 AM

Yea guys in suits are so sexy. And you're right Poobs, they do have a presence to them, it gives them charm.

happysmilely - 10-25-2004 at 07:41 PM

sadlyly I love the suits as well...
but it's just a perk to the music of a band

minimandy14 - 10-25-2004 at 07:47 PM

yea i think its cool when bands do that because it makes them look more proffesional because you know its more of a career for some people . . . . . .

TurtleEnterprises - 10-25-2004 at 07:50 PM

I see suits everyday, i rather see bands in there most relaxed clothes, if its suits then more power to them :)

but there is so much more to it .....i love bands that dress up !!! i mean, wearing weird costumes or whatever ....

bananaboat - 10-26-2004 at 07:49 AM

Yea like Pink Grease. I know what you mean.

poobs - 10-26-2004 at 08:18 AM

Nah..Unless it's done as a spoof like Beck's band used to do..Otherwise it's nothing but a lame gimmick..

7cut - 10-26-2004 at 11:36 PM

yeeeeah, like in the BRILL midnite vultures days ...exactly. or like ---you´ll hate me for mentioning them over and over--- Devo or adam ant or george clinton and his backing band or the beastie boys at "intergalactic". i am into the idea of weird costumes and overalls ---i suggested we should have overalls at the office but they thought it was starking mad. i´d like it, running around like a scientist in a white overall....my fave midnite vultures dress were those american football shoulder and knee pads and the transfusion packages ....brilliant.
unforunately no picture to be found on google.

happysmilely - 10-27-2004 at 09:41 PM

I also see the band suits as a bit of a pun.
Here they are "no talent drugged out bum rock stars"
In suit and tie.
Kind of like Rene Magritte and his bowler cap/suit in tie. (Modern art buffs will understand)
Dress like the norm, because you are abnormal.
But I don’t know, that’s just a fun way to look at it.
It also just look cool

Devo so rocks my socks and so on

7cut - 10-28-2004 at 12:47 AM

yeeees, mark and his goggles...brill. you know the "worried man" video ? or the robotic dancers in the background of "girl you want" ? high class.

7cut - 10-28-2004 at 03:29 AM

oh, i found a picture at last ...

prettyvacant - 10-31-2004 at 01:45 AM

personally, i dislike band "uniforms". altho, 80's matchbox did a "spoof" band called the boogs which was them in green bumblebee costumes, which was quite funky.

prettyvacant - 10-31-2004 at 01:49 AM

its not a very good pict, but woo!!

7cut - 11-2-2004 at 08:45 AM

oooh, i forgot to mention Outkast and esp. Andre 3000 !!! their costumes are the shitniz also ...

poobs - 11-2-2004 at 11:12 AM

I don't consider what Outkast wears costumes..They design their own clothes..I think they look hot..:D

7cut - 11-3-2004 at 12:18 AM

oh yes.

Evangeline - 11-3-2004 at 12:57 PM

I saw a local band last wednesday, and they were all wearing scrubs. It was spiffy.;););)

poobs - 11-3-2004 at 01:26 PM

Oohh..I like scrubs..Jeremy stole his scrubs that he wore when Brody was born..The most comfy pants EVER!! :D

[Edited on 11-3-2004 by poobs]

7cut - 11-4-2004 at 12:44 AM

i´d like to dress up as Cleopatra if i´d have to play a gig .....has there been a band before who performed in their pyjamas ?????

I saw Devo and Franz play at the same concert.
Goodtimes.

7cut - 11-8-2004 at 04:13 AM

oh lucky you !! which show was that ?

it´s so weird, a Munich-based friend of a friend of mine is dating Matthew McCarty, the brother of Nick from Franz Ferdinand. and they´re gonna marry now so she´ll be related to him. gee, this world is a small place somehow. everyone´s related or befriended with everyone.

bananaboat - 11-9-2004 at 10:08 AM

Hah, I know this girl who wears big fuzzy coats, you know those jackets that look like you killed a bear for it's fur. She has one in every colour.:no:

7cut - 11-11-2004 at 01:21 AM

i´ve seen a German interview with Nick yesterday and he said they got their name from a race horse and that they´re going to be in the upcoming Harry Potter film. not its OST but they are going to be featured in the movie. hehe. that´s cute.

poobs - 11-11-2004 at 07:23 AM

Didn't we already talk about them in the movie? They're going to be the band The Weird Sisters that play at the Yule Ball..:duh:

7cut - 11-12-2004 at 12:27 AM

tsk, the weird sisters ...who came up with that name ?

poobs - 11-12-2004 at 06:48 AM

J.K. Rowling..

Seriously, haven't we had this EXACT conversation? Even your negativity about the name of the band?? :o:o

Evangeline - 11-12-2004 at 01:24 PM

I remember it. I can't wait to see it!

poobs - 11-12-2004 at 02:41 PM

Yeah..I'm so stoked for the movie in general..:D

bananaboat - 11-12-2004 at 08:02 PM

You know what movie I want to see?
"Aviator"

TurtleEnterprises - 11-13-2004 at 08:47 AM

I remember that conversation tooooooo!

7cut - 11-15-2004 at 05:12 AM

gee, i have so many dejavu experiences.....starking mad.

bananaboat - 11-15-2004 at 12:33 PM

Yea I get a lot of deja vu too. I even dreamed of being in my house before I even saw it or moved into it.

7cut - 11-16-2004 at 04:48 AM

do you think de-ja-vu is a real phenomenon or just spiritual hoax ?

bananaboat - 11-16-2004 at 09:45 AM

I think of it as a coincidence. But I also think it could be demons doing that too.

7cut - 11-17-2004 at 04:21 AM

maybe it´s like in that Bill Murray / Andy McDowell movie ?

bananaboat - 11-18-2004 at 09:45 AM

Hmm...which movie is that? Haha, I thought you were talking about "Ghost Busters."

JunoRedneck - 11-18-2004 at 01:08 PM
